@tsarstepan,
She's not big on food. Eats a couple of mouthfuls an hour or so. Sometimes.

one has to use the direct approach.

Grab cat, caress and stroke her to relax her, hold the cat down, open her mouth, and pop the pill in, hold mouth closed, stroke cat and throat until she swallows.

Sometimes she PRETENDS to swallow.

In which case, it's repeat as needed.

She then stalks off, muttering threats and imprecations under her breath, and glares at me for a while.

@dlowan,

Kidneys have stayed the same!!!!

Friends have said they are REALLY happy to care for madam.

Madam Miranda to be taken to visit Auntie Steph and Uncle Kevin tomorrow night so she can get to know them, have some familiar smells around when she moves in (actually, I gave them my lovely previous sofa, so it may still hold some Oscar and Miranda smells to a cat's fine sense of smell) and we can see if they can get a pill down her gob.

Two excellent developments, Deb. (Especially about the condition of Miranda's kidneys. Oh phew.)

Are Auntie Steph and Uncle Kevin familiar with the famous cat pill applicator thingy? It might come in handy.
That's extremely kind of them to offer to look after her in your absence. I think I like them! Very Happy

@msolga,
That bloody applicator is too big for my hand.

I think I lost it.

@dlowan,
Now I'm wondering if we mean the same thing by the "applicator" thingy, Deb.
Mine was about the length & width of a (thin) Bic ball point pen. With little "handles" on the side (to help slide the the pill down the cat's throat.)

No big deal. I'm just curious to know.

Mine was a bit like a big syringe with rubber flanges to hold the pill and a sort of plunger.

It was very hard for me to keep the plunger thing up because my hands are too small to hold it like that comfortably.

It looked like this:

@dlowan,
That's the same one I had!
Odd, I never thought my hands were particularly large before. Maybe yours are incredibly tiny? Wink

Ms. Olga:
Mitsu's exclusive bunk space, on top of my sock and underwear drawers,
is still respected by the other two. They prefer the back room downstairs, anyway.

I could move her out of the way and place her back without waking her.

Thought you'd like to know.

p.s. : the old thumb-and-forefinger technique of administering pills works the best here. A gentle push on the lip is all it takes. Maybe they trust me....

@neko nomad,
Aw, they're respectful of her special place, neko. You brought those critters up very well.

How are they (and you) adjusting since she's been gone?

Thank you for another wonderful Mitsu photograph. She obviously led the life of a princess ... which she was! Smile

@neko nomad,
Un huh. I've seen pet places advertise something called 'sock drawers'. One of my cats already had his own sock drawer. He got tired of it after awhile.

My Little Brother
A poem.

September 2, 2010

My Little Brother

marches by
in the hallway
or maybe it's not marching
more like dancing
and he's singing
in a high-pitched voice
the lyrics
he's made up:
"Little puppy,
little puppy,
little puppy"
except he's pronouncing it
as what sounds like "widow puppy"
and in his arms, cuddled,
is a kitten;
the funny thing
about all of this is
we don't own any cats.

I loved the commercial and the making of documentary. Quite beautiful and what a clever use of cats as shoppers as marketing symbols.

Gizmodo's blog had a post on this Ikea/cat experiment yesterday. From the comments:

Dillon, cutest of the automotive cats I see when helping my brother move cars around. Dillon keeps an entire industrial park free of mice and moles.
