Earlier, in another thread a while ago, I had reported that my wife and I had to make a very difficult decision to euthanize our male cat, Kory, due to health problems. It broke our heart.
Just yesterday (Tuesday),
Kira suddenly stopped eating and was running a high temperature. On Monday, she had been eating more that usual and was full of beans.
So, we rushed her down to our vet the same day. Her temp was 103.x. In addition, she had lost 1.1 pounds since May, when she had her annual vet check. At that time, she was 7.01 pounds. She's quite a small-framed cat, with not much reserves, if she were to get sick.
Well, the subsequent check and blood tests found out that she had a small "mass" in her lower abdomin, which, in all likelihoods, is probably cancer. In addition, the weight loss is due to an over-active thyroid, which isn't too unusual in an older cat (she's 13 years old).
Anyways, they managed to get her temperture back down, and she's starting to eat again. For a while, we were worried that she was not going to be coming home at all, which was all too much for us, only 5 weeks after Kory died. This "mass" must be quick growing, as she was clean in May.
So, as of now, it appears she will be coming home late tomorrow afternoon, with medication for her thyroid. We still feel that the long term prognosis is not good, due to the possible cancer, but we will cherish the remaining time we have left, however long that is.
Our bottom line is that we don't want to see her suffer in any way.
