Grand comeback, Bethie!
Just sitting back to watch the fireworks.
Love is, above all else, the gift of oneself.

Rats! Not a firework to be had. <sigh>
Jjorge, that's nice and true. Did you like the definitions of love I suggested -- Love as a paradox?
Sad to think that the BluBomber might be right, that not everyone gets love. Sad also that even if you have love, maybe you don't have it for your entire life. Of course, I'm meaning eros. Let's see, there's eros, agape, and philia. Is there another? I've always been fond of agape, so meaningful, makes you feel so good.
How charlming you are Piffka, just lookin' fer a little good, clean fun, eh? I heard all about it on the telephone . . . darned girls . . .
Piffka,
"Love is caring more about someone else than you do for yourself"
(eros + agape)
"but you have to love yourself best."
( ? )
"The more love you give away, the more it multiplies. "
(love begets love)
"Love is a total acceptance of things as they are, while striving to make things better. "
( ? )
"Love is not to be given lightly"
( eros )
"but should be given to all."
( agape )
Love is a paradox.
( Like donald and Daisey? )
Love: the final paradox
Love requires that one throws their entire being into an enigma, willingly.
It is best that one be loved by an intelligent, thoughtful, worldly person.
But that is the kind of person least likely to indulge themselves in reckless abandon!

No, that would be a paradux . . .
Precisely;
And if Donald and Daisy were having trouble conceiving, they might consult one or a paradox!

That would be a paradux with a paradox;
A bit of a paradox in itself???

What? quibbling over one little letter?
would ya like it better if I said a paradogs???
Awww, Setanta, nothing like good clean fun. And oh, to be a little cricket listening to some crow being eaten on that telephone! <heehee> Nothing like a little spat to fan the flames.
Jjorge -- I'll reply to your question marks, OK? If you don't love yourself... respect yourself... know you're worth loving, you can't offer meaningful love to someone else. Therefore, you have to love yourself first and best -- it has to be as true and as accepting as any love you offer someone else.
When you love someone, you have to accept them as they are, right? But, in order to keep that love from becoming static, you are, or at least I am, always trying to make things better, to grow the garden, so to speak. Nothing stays the same... there are only two ways to go and I aim for getting better!
Anyway, Donald and Daisy were always my favorites. Mickey & Minnie are too sweet. Donald & Daisy knew how to get down and besides, they never wore pants.
Piffka---

jjorge--- I had a little problem with the word 'best'.

jjorge--- Oh, I always thought they wore white underpants.

OK, I see. Does first & best make it better? I had something more profound entered and ready to post when my computer froze. Now, it's part of that vast timeless wasteland of lost thoughts.
Pretty funny about the white panties, though...
Amare autem nihil aliud est, nisi eum ipsum diligere, quem ames, nulla indigentia, nulla utiliate quaesita.
To love is to esteem anyone for himself, apart from all question of need or of advantage.
--Cicero
that's a great definition, jorge
