that would be splendid. recording on this TV system is more complicated than getting out of Alcatraz. Though that's been done, too.

It might also be on www.cbs4boston.com.... there is a section on the left called "Joyce reviews", hopefully it will get there. I'll post a link then. Would still love to have it taped, not sure if I can download from the website...

just a little. and in the back. it was a lousy preview, but whatever. it's good that it aired anyway.

tonight, however, was a whole different ballgame. the shite was just flying, and i've heard someone in the audience say that this was the best show the Orphans ever did. Which is mui importante, as we had people from Boston Globe and the Phoenix in the audience. Much happiness in the backstage. Nana was delighted. zzzzzzzzz.

Music, Theatre, Art Aplenty This Weekend
Joyce Kulhawik
Reporting

(CBS4) BOSTON: Looking for something to do in the Boston area this weekend? There's music and theatre and art aplenty.

Let's start with a great way to celebrate our beautiful weather. If you head to Salem there is a new exhibition of paintings at the Peabody Essex Museum that expresses the glory of New England.

"Painting Summer in New England" is a collection of more than 100 paintings by more than 80 artists. The works were done from the late 1850's to the present day. You can see the exquisite summer in New England paintings through September 4th.

The Gold Dust Orphans are known for their outrageous musical productions and their newest one takes on the passion and politics of the Queen of the Nile. "Cleopatra the Musical" features a cast of 40 and includes all original songs written by Ryan Landry and Bill Hough. Catch the show at Boston's Machine Theatre on Friday and Saturday nights through May 27th.

and here --

'Cleopatra' with feathers
By Catherine Foster, Globe Staff | April 28, 2006

When Ryan Landry paid off his house in Dorchester recently, he decided to make good on a promise he'd made to his leading actor, Afrodite, a decade ago: ''To give her a really, really big lead."

That would be the starring role in ''Cleopatra, the Musical!," which is turning out to be this musical theater troupe's most opulent production yet. It opens tonight.

''I spared no expense on this one," Landry says. ''There's Ziegfeld Follies, tap dancing, hula hoops, 100 Ken dolls, 35 performers. I spent $400 on feathers alone."

Oh, and don't miss Afrodite's entrance when she comes to Rome. It's on a hydraulic lift.

heehee, somewhere in this link is also a tidbit on Cleopatra. Only 15 seconds or so. I'm somewhere in the back. The second thing, one with hula hoops, is my tapdancing number, but i'm not on the stage yet. i come in front, dressed like the other girls, but with a marily monroe wig. oh well, you just gotta come see it in person.

we gave the globe and the phoenix a great performance last night. heck, even if they didn't like it, we sure had a blast.

That link takes me right to the right video, and the hula-hoop number starts with someone in a Marilyn Monroe wig singing and dancing... not you?

Excellent!

If nothing else, maybe you can suit up and do one of your numbers at home and littlek can videotape it a la "Knocking on Heaven's Door."

Confused i can't compete with that exquisite performance in a sober state. and littlek and i are embarking on a dry month. as a way of money saving, weight loss, general cleansing of the system....etc.

one downside to last night's performance: the man i like (a lot), one of the few straight guys, most likely has a girlfriend. unless he has a very affectionate sister. though he was saying he has family visiting, the said lady didn't look like it. and besides, she seemed perfect for him. pretty, if very nerdy little thing. sigh. moving on. i guess one shouldn't look for a man in a predominantly gay group of actors, heh. odds are way too tough.

Men are like streetcars--unless they are like cordless trolleys.

The charmers are often gay. The others are ego-amorous.

it's funny how vastly different every performance feels. and it's a highly subjective thing. i thought Friday was our best show ever and yesterday was great, though with some mistakes. But I was all psyched and full of energy on Friday and exhausted after the day with little sleep and worrying about the puppy that ate a ton of dark chocolate. a friend from the cast felt it vice versa, mostly because she was tired and nervous on Friday.

I had five of my good friends come yesterday to the show, it was fun fun fun.

we're in boston until May 27, then in Provincetown from June 16 to September 6 (only once a week, thankgod). I can't wait for the Provincetown crowd. That will be a riot.

Audiances are different as well. I often find fri night audiances to be "Flat" (end of a long week etc) Different audiances laugh in different and sometimes highly unusual places.
Dont worry about mistakes dag the audiance doesnt know what is supposed to happen just as long as the show keeps rolling along it will be fine. (I once left out half of act 1 in a play and no-one realised)

oh, i didn't make any. Very Happy 'tis the leads that sometimes garble a line or leave something out. but that's all unnoticeable to others. and funny to us. Last night Ryan could not remember the name of one of the name characters... kept calling him King Pt..... whatshisname... No grave mistakes occured as of yet. Just amusing hickups. But, like we Slovaks say: Horse has four legs and even he trips every now and then...
