While a cold beer is always good on a warm day, I have some other favorite warm weather drinks. I love a crisp, dry Vinho Verde on a hot day, or even a well-chilled Fino sherry, or Manzanilla (more delicate in flavour). I am not a big fan of sugary coolers, but admit a like for the passion fruit flavoured vodka cooler Tabu, from Vancouver. What are your faves?

dont drinkalcohol anymore (there were some unpleasantnesses)
BUT, when I did I enjoyed a cold strait up solid gin martini. i would stick a bottle of Beefeaters or tangueray in the freezer. Then , when cold enough Id pour a big glass and put a pickled onion in it.

margueritas- This drink was most responsible for my PAST unacceptable driving record.

nowadays its pretty Baptist

COLD GREEN TEA CHAI
DIET PEACH SNAPPLE
STEWARTS GINGER BEER (YOU MAY SHOVE ALL THE REST)
ICED SPEARMINT TEA
LIME KOOLAID MIXED WITH ICED LAPSANG (DONT GO YUCK, THINK OF A DRY LIME TASTE WITH THE SMOKY TEA FLAVOR)
V8 WITH TABASCO AND LOTS OF ICE

Hmm farmerman, that would be a Gibson then, I think...I am a fan of a good dry martini, my gin choice is Bombay Sapphire, and for Vodka, Stoli....problem is, they are costly on a patio. My aunt and uncle vacation on Algonquin Island in the summer....they aren't supposed to bring any alcohol onto the island, so they make pre-mixed martinis and put em in Evian water bottles. They toss em in the freezer and enjoy. Not planning an intervention yet, but who knows, lol....

The wife is quite fond of Soy Chai lattes, warm or chilled. I can't get into V8 as a drink, but use it as an ingredient to braise brisket.

In France: Pernod, ice and water

In Italy: Campari, orange juice and soda

In England: it never gets hot enough to worry, so one of our ambient temperature beers!

A gin and tonic always goes down a treat on warm days. And around here, a warm day is anytime the temperature goes above 70 degrees F. No sense depriving oneself just because the weather doesn't cooperate!

kitchenpete, pernod, ice and water or soda water.....lovely....licorice sweet breath all day Very Happy Campari I know, but not much of a fan.

Gin and tonic....also lovely...like it with lime, not lemon. (cav thinks about restoring original spelling 'Gina and tonic') Also, the quinine in tonic water does a body good.

Martinis and what not are cold and good, but not refreshing on a hot day, methinks, a bit too dehydrating. A summer drink needs a mixer....Alize comes to mind, on ice, passion fruit juice with cognac, all pre-mixed in a handsome frosted bottle. Also, chilled Pineau des Charentes is a summer fave of ours.

Since I quit drinking, I tried drinking some of those 'non-alcoholic' beers. what swill.
however I have found a good use for them. If anyone grows orchids, I suggest that you take a "no beer', open it and let it go flat. Add about a gram of peters orchid food and , after you water your orchid for the week, pour this mix over top. the nitrogen is made available by the enzymes in the 'beer" . Im thinking of marketing this as a no-brains orchid food because most people kill their orchids with overfeeding.
I will now return this thread to its previously scheduled program, which is already in progress.

Whoa, cool...I was hoping there was a use for no-beer...will pass that tip on to my mom, who has very limited success with orchids.

Gin and juice...ehBeth is a regular Snoop Dogg Wink

The vegetable cocktail brings up an idea: Gazpacho with vodka and ice in a bowl? Sort of a chunky bloody mary... Laughing . I eat a lot of sashimi through the summer, so I shouldn't forget mentioning well-chilled sake.

The only drink I never get tired of is 100% grape juice. Grape Fanta is another of my faves. Smile

Here in Japan they have beer vending machines all over the place, which makes for a great quick cool-off in the summer.

What are the general thoughts on Sangria? Personally, it gives me a headache...not my fave, but some seem to like it.

The drink of choice in the humid and hot South would have to be ice-tea.
No, we don't use fresh mint as was depicted in Gone with the Wind.

The runners-up down here would be beer and bottled water.

Come on down!

Sweetened or unsweeten?

Though I seem to recall, during a two-week sojourn in No. Carolina one hot summer some years ago, only Yankees like myself opted for the unsweetened...

Nice sweet iced tea..with lemon...or Long Island Iced Tea If you're up for it.
Lemon Malts have been my favorites the last few years for a great weekend thirst quencher. And JerryR made some fabulous LemonDrop something or other last summer that were just grand.
When it gets really really hot and humid all that seems to work is water..colder the better and wait for the sun to go away.
If the night cools off enough then its a nice frozen mudslide <if its too hot it just doesnt work for some reason..maybe its the alcohol content Rolling Eyes>
Margaritas though....my downfall. Iced, frozen..it all works.
