The Canadian women's hockey team has won its second consecutive Olympic gold medal.

The team beat Sweden 4-1 in the final Monday, scoring two goals in the first period and two in the second.

<snip>
Caroline Ouellette and Gillian Apps scored one goal each in the first frame.

Apps opened the scoring just over three minutes into the game, after powering in alone in front of the Swedish net.

LOL

Damn right.

Hey, I mean .. well, it could be worse. When I sleep, even.

Night before last, I had a dream - for the Olympic games, I guess. Dreamt I was in Croatia. And there was football going on - world cup? And the second day, the Croatian team was playing, so everyone was waving Croatian flags - and playing the special World Cup Croatian anthem - which was sung by Andre Hazes, the famous, late Dutch schlager singer. It even had a line or two in Dutch, which I heartily sang along.

For ehBeth and company.

<Removes fez>

O Canada!
Our home and native land!
True patriot love in all thy sons command.

With glowing hearts we see thee rise,
The True North strong and free!

From far and wide,
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.

God keep our land glorious and free!
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.

O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.

I love the Olympics. I love the drama and the effort and the perfection and imperfections of it all. I love the humanity of it. I love the surprises, the stumbles, the crashs and the falls. Sometimes that's difficult to see, or difficult to watch, because the athlete(s) have worked so hard to become something more the human that to see them falter brings us all down to earth, reminds us that we are chained to this existence, to these muscles and bones, to this semi-frozen brain trying to make the impossible happen.

Of course, when the impossible does happen, and it does with surprising frequency, we are shot up and out over the horizon of our own humaness, connected in some small way to their experience, their triumph over gravity or nerves or both, and imparted with the knowledge that, with the right effort, anything can happen.

MORNING FUNNY
New Computer Viruses...

The George Bush Virus - Causes your computer to keep looking for viruses of mass destruction.

The John Kerry Virus - Stores data on both sides of the disk and causes little purple hearts to appear on screen.

The Clinton Virus - Gives you a permanent Hard Drive ; with NO memory

The Al Gore Virus - Causes your computer to keep counting and re-counting

The Bob Dole Virus - Makes a new hard drive out of an old floppy

The Lewinsky Virus - Sucks all the memory out of your computer, then e-mails everyone about what it did

The Arnold Schwarzenegger Virus - Terminates some files, leaves, but will be back

The Mike Tyson Virus - Quits after two bytes

The Oprah Winfrey Virus - Your 200 GB hard drive shrinks to 100 GB, then slowly expands to re-stabilize around 350 GB

The Ellen Degeneres Virus - Disks can no longer be inserted

The Prozac Virus - Totally screws up your RAM, but your processor doesn't care

The Michael Jackson Virus - Only attacks minor files

The Lorena Bobbitt Virus - Reformats your hard drive into a 3.5 inch floppy then discards it through Windows
