The universe is arbitrary. However great the possibilities for design, the intent is inscrutable. Certainly we are of no significance in it, or we'd know what was up.
Otherwise, egotist that I am, I can't see it making much sense. Or, even if it does make sense to someone else, it makes no sense to me, and so I am unlikely to be of any import to the grander scheme. It the galaxy is just a big petri dish, I doubt my colony will be picked out for a grand new tastier petri dish. So even if there is a grander scheme, it is of no importance to me.
