Sure. The vet surgeon can waltz in once the beast is unconscious and leave before it ever wakes up. The poor anesthetist has to confront the defensive tiger and knock it out, then stay with it until it is fully conscious again.
Eva has had to do that on several occasions.

Here, they do their own anaesthesia.
