Doctor Dag, it seems to be semi-abstract and defintely surrealistic. And interesting.
Mirage, I think there's something to this formulation, but I'm not sure I understand it. Seeing it on its terms seems to be at the core of this definition. Right?
Dag's second version, the elongated or El Greco-ized version is better as an abstraction, but the first one, with the eyes, has, as I suggested, interesting surrealistic aspects.
Mirage's definition regarding the acceptance of an abstraction on its own terms sugguests no need to see snow-covered trees, or even eyes--regarding its impact as an abstraction.
Didn't quite understood last post.
Let me help you with my definition...
I'll take an example...
David goes every morning to the market and buyes bread. His route is always the saim therefore sorounding is too. It's every day in front of his "eye", and is waiting for that saim eye to see it, and it's beauty. David is not the only one looking at the saim thing every day. If David is talented, he'll see those thing differently. He'll make art of it, insted of regarding that sorounding as something that is there just because it can't be removed, like other people. He makes abstracions.
I maybe made thinks even harder to understand after this example, but I tried. Don't resent me...
Here's me playing around with my photo-editing software attempting some abstract work. Be gentle, it's my first try.

Am I on the right track?

Original photo is very good. I will make my own adjustment (if you don't mind) tomorrow. I only liked the second adjustment of yours.
Oh Yeah, Reyn, keep it up.
Mirage, your explanation confused me, but I've read about blood vengeance in Montenegro I'll not disagree.
To me, Abstract Photography could be any number of things.
It could be a photo that was taken in such a way to make it look abstract by how it was composed, along with exposure times, lighting, etc, etc.
Then, there's a photo that could be made to look abstract with the use of photo-editing software. There's so much that can be done with the use of programs like that.
Perhaps it's a person's attitude towards photography? Maybe some are "purists"?
From my point of view, both are valid, and with the addition of the software use, a heck of a lot more fun!

A very accurate appraisal IMO. And well done with the filters and smudge tool there, keep at it!

I don't get it. + I'm not from Montenegro...
Reyn, I agree too, except that (with regard to your saying that the picture may to make it look abstract) pictures can also be taken so as to focus on its inherent (not added) abstract characteristics. Abstraction is in every sight; meaningful content is our projection, ascription onto, or addition to our perceptions.
Then from Serbia. I'm going by your statement of "location" under your image.
^I got that. But why vengeance ?
Montenegro is famous in the anthropological literature for its (former?) custom of blood vengeance, an eye for an eye system of vigilante justice. At least that is as I recall.
But I don't want to side-track this intersting thread onto anthropological and epistemological issues.
#4 in the series that I started on the last page.
Reyn, the word for that is SUBLIME. Really. And sublime beauty is the goal of all art as far as I'm concerned.
Indeed. Good looking Reyn.
Thank you. If nothing else, it's fun just to fool around and make something interesting to look at.
Reyn, hope you don't mind but I messed around with your image a bit, just for kicks.
Few quick filters and you can change the image into something almost totally unrecognizable.
