Farmerman, have you heard of Guerrilla Glue? It sets up when you least expect it.

Mmm avacados. drool.

Plain, in salads, n' sandwiches, and guacamole is soo good.

Here's one of my favorite things to do:
Make potato salad, but instead of mayo use a good guac. recipe (suit to your taste).
I often substitute avocado mush of any sort for mayo/or sauce.

Im gona buy some salmon and crab tonight and eat it with avacado like a dish I had at new year.

Eating a plain avacado with just lemon juice?
That sounds like it sucked.

Dice it up on a salad. But really you can't go wrong with the turkey sandwich especially if you put a slice of bacon on it. Look how many people mentioned it already.

Ditch the turkey and invent your own avacado sandwich. Try it soon and come back and tell us. Avacado and bacon are also a classic together.

I just realised avacado has three a's in it.

(it's 2:30 and i'm on the internet talking about avacado's)

Uh, no it doesn't. It's spelled avocado. Smile

Sorry for the pedantry but it was drivin' me nuts. Yes, I am a Virgo.

Oh, and as for using avocadoes -- most of my usual tricks are here already, but to add, avocado is a natural with Mexican food, and not just as guacamole. Next time you make yourself a tostada or anything else tortilla-based, slap a slice of avocado on top. It's awesome.

Don't put lemon on an avocado, use a dash of salt.

And if you're not liking it, it probably isn't ripe.

The only reason - to me - for lemon is that when one makes guacamole and it is going to sit around, you want a tad of something acidic in the mix to keep the guacamole from immediately turning brown. A little salad dressing will do as well.

If I eat a sliced ripe avocado, with or without some other food, I just sprinkle salt on it.

Avocado and Sour Cream Scrambled Eggs
Recipe for Avocado and Sour Cream Scrambled Eggs
by BumbleBeeBoogie.

My favorite Brunch recipe. This is a wonderful brunch dish served with sides of bacon or ham and fresh fruit. Its especially good with my Finnish Limpa Bread toast. Serves 3 to 4 people.

2 tablespoons butter
4 large eggs
1 ripe avocado, pitted, peeled, and mashed into small chunks
2 green onions, thinly sliced white and green parts
1/3 cup sour cream
salt and freshly ground pepper, to taste

Whisk the eggs, salt and pepper together until blended.

In a medium size frying pan, melt the butter over low heat; add the green onions and saute for 2 minutes.

Add the egg, mashed avocado, and salt and pepper mixture. Stir constantly until the eggs just begin to set. Immediately add the sour cream to the egg mixture, stirring to blend over low heat until the egg mixture sets but is still moist.

Take care that the scrambled eggs remain moist.

There is a fast food hamburger place in Albuquerque that serves a unique hamburger.

They top the burger with mashed avocado and a red or green chili sauce. I'm a cry baby when it comes to chili so I usually have it omitted. But the burger-avocado is a good combination.

I also like to garnish poached salmon filets with slices of avocado sprinkled with lemon juice and minced green onions and a teaspoon of ground pecans.

I pour salad dressing (not a creamy one) into the center. Delicious!

BTW - does anyone know of an easy way to get the pit out of an avocado? For whatever reason, the first half comes away pretty easily, but the second! I get avocado all over the kitchen when I try to pit it - such a waste!

Stick a knife in sideways (e. g. don't stab, do more like a slice but only partway in) and work to free the pit.

I thought the thread title was provocotive enough to temp him in.

Amigo, Im single too but even i know its wise to sleep at 2.30, even if i am on my own.

Even tho I wasnt too keen on the avacado Im tempted to eat it again.Im salmon slices/olive oil and balsamic vinegar shopping after work.Cant wait.

How do I know if its ripe?Ive put mine in the fridge but I seem to recall they are meant to be in an airing cupbosrd/somwhere warm.

Setanta recently taught me to split an avocado this way

Quote:
To split an avocado, cut it in two lengthways and twist the two halves in opposite directions to separate them.

avocado ...

Much easier and tidier than the way I'd been trying to split it.
