Why are you still a Christian?

Squinney--

My motivation, here, is just to understand other people's ideas and reasons for identifying themselves as Christians. I know many people in my "real" life who are Christian, but it is much easier and, I think, more productive to have this conversation here at A2K.

My beliefs are probably not typical. I am interested in what others believe because I want to be able to better relate to them.

And yes, Squinney, I always hold the door open just a little in case I am wrong.

echi,

I don't know what else to tell you. That is the basics of my beliefs.

If you ask specifics, I will do my best to answer.

You asked about my beliefs. Did you find my answer to be adequate?
So far, I don't think you have been as specific as I have. If you could just do that, it would be a good start.

Echi,

I don't think that it is I haven't been specific. My words are simple, echi, because my faith is simple.

I had a friend once. He turned from Christianity to Buddhism. I asked him why. He said the answers in Christianity were too simple. Shocked

Simple enough for a child.

"At that time Jesus answered and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because Thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes." (Matthew 11:25 KJV)

Thank you, Bartikus.

I am not sure I will ever understand mankind's seeming need to make the simplest of things complicated.

How can one live forever with God without forever remaining a mere child in the presence of God?

Even my earthly father....will always be my earthly father. I will always be his child.

Quote:
Dear god, surround me as I speak,
The bridges that I walk across are weak
Frustrations fill the void that I can't solely bear
Dear god, don't let me fall apart,
You've held me close to you
I have turned away and searched for answers I can't understand

Chorus:

They say that I can move the mountains
And send them falling to the sea
They say that I can walk on water
If I would follow and believe
With faith like a child

Sometimes, when I feel miles away
And my eyes can't see your face
I wonder if I've grown to lose the recklessness
I walked in light of you

[chorus]

Little girl:
I've got joy like a fountain!
Be kind one to others
In jesus christ your son

They say that love can heal the broken
They say that hope can make you see
They say that faith can find a savior
If you would follow and believe
With faith like a child

Quote:
. . unless you . . . become as little children, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven. (Matt. 18:3)

Every Christian needs childlike faith in God. In this self-reliant age, however, we sometimes fail to recognize that our trust must be in Him, not in what we can do. Although we are usually willing to rely on God for wisdom in the big decisions in life, we often fret about everyday concerns. We forget that He knows our needs and has everything under control. So we attempt to solve problems with our own wisdom. We become too sophisticated to have the faith of a little child.

Many years ago a passenger ship made its way toward the harbor at Plymouth, England. The weather during the journey had been excellent, so the vessel would be landing ahead of schedule-at night instead of the next morning. This upset a number of the passengers. Many of them had never been to England, and they were troubled because they had to change their train connections or get unexpected hotel reservations. The little children on board, however, never worried for a moment. They continued to run, play, and laugh-unaffected by altered plans. Why were they so calm? They had childlike faith in the wisdom and love of their parents.

When Jesus wanted to teach His disciples about greatness, He used a little child as an object lesson. He said that we have no better example of faith than that of a trusting child. What comfort there is in relying on the Father and resting in His wisdom, love, and power! What joy in becoming as little children! P.R.V.

Lord, give me the faith of a little child
Who trusts so implicitly,
Who simply and gladly believes
Thy Word,
And never questions Thee.

Why do you say your faith is simple?

It is not simple to understand. That's why there are so many different types of Christianity and so many different versions of the Bible.

It is not simple to explain. That's why you're all having such difficulty.

It is not simple to live. That's why all Christians are sinners.

Husker, I will look for it. I will make it a point to get the movie. Thank you, my friend.

echi,

The reason it's not simple for some is because they look for complicated answers.

It is simple to explain, echi. I have explained it in the simplest terms possible (IMO). The difficulty comes because there those that still want the complicated answers and there are no complicated answers.

It's not simple to live? Sometimes. As long as we do a daily walk with the Lord, it is easy. When we forget Him in our lives, that is where our difficulty comes in.

echi, it's not just Christians that are sinners. All of mankind are sinners.

A simple answer would be simple to understand. I do not look for complicated answers to anything. Exactly the opposite. Simplicity is beautiful.

So it is difficult.

Well, that's what you think.
