In case you haven't heard of the source, its called "common sense." What is it you don't understand about individual rights and responsibilities versus the government taking care of you?

Nah, you are getting your ideas from other than your own noggin. And it wouldn't be too tough to guess pretty precisely what those sources might be.

But as you assume you've managed a goodly handle on poli sci principles even without the study, how would you describe or portray the responsibilities of government? Feel free to make reference to the US constitution or to writings of the framers.

I was raised a Democrat, but after I woke up to reality, it didn't take.

Well, I was a Goldwater Republican in my youth...I'll bet ol' Barry is rolling in his grave right now to see what his party has become: Narrow-minded, gov't interference in people's lives, faith-based policy making. Not exactly what a libertarian like Goldwater had in mind.

Okie- I don't know if you realize it but you have been LECTURED TO by one of the most brilliant minds on these threads. OR SO HE THINKS.

Go on, Okie, and don't let people like Blotham, who rarely uses links to buttress his remarks, stop you from giving your opinions.

I would, of course, counsel you to utilize evicdence and documentation whenever you can.

Now that would actually come in handy. But since we already asked for that several times in vain, I'm not holding my breath.

Really? Where? I think you are just bloviating. If you check my posts, you will find a good deal of evidence. If you can rebut it do so. I am not like Blotham who thinks he is the repository of the world's wisdom and needs not make reference.

Try to rebut my posts. I challenge you. Failing that, dry up!!

Ehm, I thought you were addressing Okie ... I was just noting that we'd actually been asking him for the same thing already a few times ... and that I wouldnt hold my breath about it anymore.

Brownie points for the use of the word "bloviating" tho.

And I'll note that this will be the 79th post on this forum to use the verb bloviate in some form or other ... we do love that word.

Thanks for the definition, 'kat. We're duly impressed that you used the word that you meant to and added a gratuitous insult, too. Very cool...

'Artagnan- Do you read all of the posts? If you do you will note that some of the brilliant people on these threads descend to the childish ploy of mangling my name. If you have not noticed that, but have noticed that I respond by posting extra "gratuitous material" you are behind the times.

If you are adventurous enough, you may indeed go into the files to discover that my name was mangled long before I posted any "gratuituous material".

As Cyrano said--" I say these things myself about myself but I allow none others to say them."

I do hope that you understand. When the mangling of my name ceases. my "gratuitous material" ceases.

Do I read all the posts? I assure you that I do not. If anyone is mangling your name--shame on them. I called you 'kat as a nickname, kind of a playful diminutive, but I won't do it again. I promise...

Kinda like you insist on spelling "Blotham"? Or how you used to call me "Nimb", oh way back, a few personas ago?

Yes, I remember Goldwater. LBJ came out with that ad on TV with a little girl walking through the field of daisies, next frame a mushroom cloud, message, Goldwater was a warmonger and very dangerous. The ad worked, with help from the press and the grand old Walter Cronkite of course, and LBJ won in a landslide. Of course LBJ was the man that escalated the war in Vietnam into a full blown war. So who was the warmonger after all? Goldwater was painted as a right wing extremist by the Democrats and the press. Hey, not much has changed has it?

You were a Goldwater Republican but a Democrat now? What happened to you?

I missed a bunch of posts, but I noticed the picture of dyslexia's house in Wolf Hole. I like it, and I admire anybody that likes the wide open spaces.

And blatham, I think you asked what the federal govenment is mandated to do? I think not much more than defense of the country, protections of our basic rights as guaranteed in the constitution, throw in international commerce, trade, and a few things like that. What else do you need to know?

D'Artagnan. Turn about is fair play. I promise never to demean your name. As a poster on these threads, I assume that people are ready to discuss and debate. I will never demean someone who has not demeaned me first. Blotham made that mistake long ago and I will not forget it.

I will post an opinion. I will attempt to back it up with evidence or documentation. I do not think it is unseemly of me in any way to POLITELY remind someone who is writing on a topic that they have n ot addressed my post or, indeed, and more imporatant to me, not brought reliable evidence or documentation to buttress thier opinion.

I am sure that it is not a breach of discussion etiquette to point out to a poster making a statement without giving evidence that their opinion is just that--an UNSOURCED opinion!
