@tsarstepan,
Try it before you dis it. It's way more difficult than you can imagine. Typical though, as if football is the height of sporting skill. A boring game of inches and seconds, yawn.

@Ceili,
Ceili, it's probably down to lack of attention span. Most Americans (and quite a few others round the world now, thanks to MTV etc) need something to give them a hit within a minute or so, otherwise it's "boring".

If they actually knew about the tactics and strategies regarding curling, they'd probably enjoy it more.
Their loss, I say.

I prefer a bit of craftiness and depth in sport or games, and curling supplies both when it's played well.

The problem with that logic is I don't correlate difficulty with enjoyment to watch a given sport or event. Chess at a master level is extremely difficult. I don't intend to watch it, let alone a match in real time.

Besides, I'm not a big football fan myself.

Juggling beakers of unstable liquid nitroglycerin and muddy cobras in heat would also make a difficult sport. Don't plan on watching that either.

For me? Not necessarily true. I love baseball and going to the stadium to see it played live (no TV or internet as distraction either).

@tsarstepan,
Yes, but baseball is all about ra ra ra followed by peanuts and ooh, look there, a mascot dancing and then a bloke trying to hit a ball and then ra ra ra again.
Lots of little interesting segments of varying things, all of which don't need a lot of concentration.

Basically, it's a man trying to hit a hall with a stick.

The wonderful thing about curling is that it combines low-impact sports with light housekeeping.

Lordy, baseball was invented in England. Read your Jane Austin some time.

@Setanta,
If you remember, Set, I probably upset a few Americans on a thread not so long ago, by providing a link to show that not only did we invent it, but we also actually referred to it as baseball (one of the Royal George princes, if I remember).

That's the fellow!

I was hoping one of you would bite.

It's annoying when someone criticises or belittles something they know little sbout, isn't it?
