@Lordyaswas,
I don't know about the princes, but Austin refers to it as baseball (one word) in her juvenilia, in the uncompleted Catherine, or the Bower, which she wrote in the 1790s. Every year, when the New York Times would have their annual spring baseball frenzy, they would often trot out references to base ball (two words) from documents as early the 1830s. For many years, i would send off letters to them, pointing out that Miss Austin was writing about baseball about 40 years before that. I eventually gave up the effort, because the editorial staff, apparently, found my letters beneath their notice.

I see that they hyphenated base-ball in that newspaper notice. You people have an obsession with hyphens.

@Setanta,
I like hyphens, but don't they get broken when you get married?

@jespah,
I think they then reproduce. What would happen if Helen Anstruther-Gough-Calthorpe married Reginald Heathcote-Drummond-Willoughby?

@Setanta,
Well, first off, I know I would not be invited, which I think is rather hurtful of them.

Taken out of context, this quote makes a great existential yet rhetorical question about everything going on here at a2k.

S., this doesn't sound like you and no offense intended but I wonder if here you're merely being facetious altogether
