Recommend a new or newish film you've seen fairly recently.

Yeah, Good Night and Good Luck is great if you like history.

I would recommend The Weather Man. I was actually surprised how much I liked it, definitely worth a watch

..... then later, in the afternoon, desperate for some light relief, we saw Friends With Money. Not too bad. Quite entertaining.

'The Matador' with Pierce Brosnan and Greg Kinnear. Interesting, fun, a little twisted.

Britain's Irish war means little for Iraq
By Tom Hyland
October 1, 2006/Sunday Age[/size

I went to Ken Loach's film The Wind that Shakes the Barley to see what all the fuss is about. Is it poisonous anti-British propaganda that legitimises terrorism, as right-wing British commentators have claimed?

Or is its depiction of Irish resistance to a brutal foreign occupation, as left-wing commentators argue, a lesson in what happens when one country occupies another, like Iraq? .... <cont>

Saw Little Miss Sunshine last weekend too! Loved it. (I know, wasn't the contest awful in an amazing way?)

Good thing we were still up from having seen a great movie 'cause when we got back to our car someone had backed into it.... Crying or Very sad

I saw Little Miss Sunshine last week as well. Excellent.

I've also recently seen The Queen, The Last King of Scotland, and Marie Antoinette.

I really enjoyed The Queen - has anyone seen it yet?

Forest Whitaker as Idi Amin in Last King of Scotland is wonderful, but the film is not so strong, and incredibly gory - don't say I didn't warn you.

Marie Antoinette has some good performances and gorgeous costumes and scenery, but slow and too long.

Planning to see The Queen soon.

Re: The Last King of Scotland -- read the book and will probably see the movie to compare. Thanks for the warning though.

recently saw "millions", a quirky brit film about a young boy who thinks the sports bag containing 230,000 pounds is a gift from god and his recently departed mother, with the introduction of the euro only weeks away the money must be spent or exchanged

the young boy wants to help the poor, but his older brother has other ideas

after the real story of the money becomes evident, things get even more complicated

a very enjoyable film, the scenes where the young boy talks to various saints are quite funny

also saw "layer cake", a modern brit underworld tale of double cross and deception, good action, moderately violent but an interesting tale, stars the new bond, before he was bond
