Holland looks like they're playing with a metal ball and magnetic shoes.

Ahem, <smorgs>

I've got (sparkly) 'ENGLAND' finger and toe nails!

...just wanted to share - as I've no telly, and I'm quite bored...

...I'll go now..

Looks like Holland's keeper is having pulled muscle problems or something. I wonder how long he's going to stay in. He's gone down twice in pain.

And it's all over. 1:0 Holland. Just when I think I've seen the best game in the cup, another one comes along that's better.

Damn! Too bad nimh isn't here. At least Walter and I would have an excuse to trade insults with him. (As all decent Germans and Dutch have to when there's a soccer match.)

Something "from" our fiends downunder (and satt)

Frontpage of "The Daily Telegraph" (Sydney), Monday, June 12, 2006:

Quote:
THE Japanese have accused Australia of being World Cup bullies, sending the temperature for tonight's World Cup clash to boiling point.

As the nation counts down the minutes to its historic day on the world's sporting stage, Japan has fired a psychological missile into the Socceroos' camp.

Stunned by the physical approach adopted by Guus Hiddink's men in their not-so-friendly with Holland eight days ago, Japanese football chiefs claim they fear another high body count in Kauserslautern in a game neither side dare lose.
Japan FA boss Saburo Kawabuchi said he was aghast that three Dutch players were forced off through injury during the 1-1 draw in Rotterdam, labelling Australia as too terrible''. ?'?'

?'?' Australia are guilty of a lot of dirty fouls,'' he said.

The verbal attack came as Australia finalised its XI with plans to deploy Harry Kewell from the bench as a gamebreaking ?'?' super-sub''.

It was Kewell's late injection intoAustralia's memorable World Cup qualifier against Uruguay in Sydney that proved decisive on the night.

Kawabuchi claimed Australia set out to intimidate their opponents.

?'?' They target ankles in particular. Japan must stand up to them. The first match will be decisive in this group and we have to be strong.''

Australian defender Craig Moore said: ?'?' Nobody went out to hurt anybody against Holland, that's not what professionals want to see.

?'?' There will always be hard tackling and injuries can happen, which is unfortunate but there won't be any intent from us (against Japan).''
Holland's Philip Cocou, Wesley Sneijder and Giovani van Bronkhorst all departed early against the Socceroos nursing injuries and levelling accusations.

But coach Guus Hiddink was unmoved by the kerfuffle and will tonight name almost the same side which stunned the world No 3 team by holding on with 10 men for the last half hour for a memorable draw.

The only change will be the inclusion of Tim Cahill, scorer of Australia's goal against the Dutch.

Harry Kewell will be on the bench primed to detonate in the second half.
Zico's squad is ranked 18 in the world?- 26 places above the Socceroos.

Final score:

Mexico 3 Iran 1.

Mexico were quite impressive in the 2nd half. Two well taken goals after nice movements. Looking forward to their game with Portugal later in the group stages. Should be a cracker.

I'm obviously happy. Though I wasn't at the end of the first half. Don't know what our coach was thinking with no real midfield. Two contention midfielders, two wingers and three forwards playing slightly out of position. Two subs at halftime did the magic.

Our keeper, Oswaldo Sánchez, lost his father earlier on the week and came back thursday to be with his family and took the plane back to Germany friday. He let it all out when the game ended, very emotional moment with all the teammates. I think I shed a tear.

Wanted to see the Holland - Serbia game but I had some football duties of my own.
