Blood checkup
I guess we're all concerned. Keep us posted.
Yikes.... just bookmarking to keep posted....
I'm going to email her for information.
Well, here it is:
I saw the doctor today. He was going to give me another transfusion but, decided to try iron tablets, 3 times a day. Still feel tired but, not as bad. I can walk up the back steps of the house and not be bothered by that. He said it could take a couple of months. CT scan showed nothing. I have to go back in two weeks for them to test the blood one more time.
Your loving sister,
I'm still guessing fibroid. But I suppose her doctor would check for that.
I would have thought they would give out more information than that.
It sounds like he's thinking iron deficiency anemia and is building her up slowly with iron supplements.
Here's a good link from the Mayo Clinic on iron deficiency anemia
Quote:Overview
Having iron deficiency anemia may cause you to feel tired and often look pale. It's a common type of anemia ?- a condition in which blood is lacking healthy red blood cells, which carry oxygen to tissues. Oxygenated blood gives your body energy and your skin a healthy color.
As the name implies, iron deficiency anemia is due to insufficient iron. Your body needs the element iron to make hemoglobin, a substance in red blood cells that enables them to carry oxygen.
Iron deficiency anemia is common, especially in women. One in five women and half of all pregnant women are iron deficient. Lack of iron in your diet is one cause of iron deficiency anemia, but there are other causes as well.
You can usually correct iron deficiency anemia with iron supplementation. Sometimes, other treatments are necessary if you're bleeding internally.

Iron supplements are considered safer than transfusions but it takes longer to feel better. She should keep her appts and follow-up checks. I hope she starts to feel better soon, Edgar. Thanks for the update.
Thank everybody for their words of support.
I've had several bouts with anemia and my doctor recommends a liquid supplement for iron. He says the iron is more easily absorbed from liquid than from tablets.
Liver and red wine are two of many dietary sources of iron.
The wine is cool but forget the liver!
From my sister, an update.
I saw my doctor yesterday. He said my blood is slowly rebuilding itself. The new medicines I'm taking has coated my stomach enough to curtail the excess bleeding. They haven't figured out what caused the bleeding, though. So, it's just been bandaged up, basically. They X-Rayed my left arm and figures that I have tendonitis in it that is causing the pain. So, since the bleeding is being slowed up, Dr. Davis said I should take Celebrex for the pain in my arm. Hmmm.
Thanks for the prayers, they're working.
Sis N Christ,
That's good news Edgar! Thanks!
Does she have an ok doctor, Edgar? They should find out about that blood loss, whether from digestive system or uterus.
I don't know any more about it than you do. She lives in Oregon and I only know from emails.
Ah, well, wishing her well...
