Hi again linda. It's true, but it takes time so you must face it and get over

the pain. Brother is fine now; cracking jokes, doesn't care, always ready

to bicker with my cousin Smile .

He likes football, was a good one before. He has an appointment for x-ray

next Wednesday , I hope it goes well. Still has this little side effects with

pills; sourness but not like before. The challenge with the catheter is over (

Thank God ) , he's urinating normally.

Very Happy Navigator: Hello !!! I'm glad to hear about your brother's good news on all counts. Someday,he'll find a girlfriend who will want him for himself, and not be bothered by his disabilities. That is great, great
news about his being able to "function" well without the catheter. That is an excellent thing, indeed. Hopefully he will get a good report when he has his X-Rays done.
Did your brother ever get his wheelchair? He'll enjoy the freedom when he does get it.
A bad taste is normal with a lot of medicines. Have your brother drink as much liquid as possible when he takes the pills, and when/if he's able,he migh want to try to eat a fruit-flavored candy,to get rid of the bad taste.
God Bless,

Thanks Noddy, thanks linda. You are great Cool

Well, he drinks plenty of water, so the urine comes clear, and won't have

any problems with the kidneys. Also, he already has a wheelchair ( electric ),

and now he just cruise smoothly and freely like a bird. No more bedsores.

Thanks Linda Smile but still the food problems since he has reflux. He is

sometimes getting annoyed ( I don't blame him ) from his diet. As I said

the physician suggested he might get to normal diet after one month.

Ofcourse ,I'll talk with a specialist before.

I always telling him that he must accept his new way of life. Hope it works

well Wednesday.

Very Happy Hello,Navigator; I'm sure your brother doesn't like the fact that his GERD forces him to change his eating habits. I don't blame him for being annoyed. He probably realizes, though, that a food regimen approved by his physician is the best thing for his general health and well-being.

Good luck for brother's next physician/clinic visit Exclamation

Hi everybody, brother did the intravenous urography x-ray and it was

good. The day before –Tuesday- he had this powder which is a

combination of magnesium, potassium, and citric acid I guess. He took it

after lunch at 2 O'clock, and after dinner at 7. I was afraid that it would

trouble him because of the acid thing and the orange flavor, but

everything went fine.

Well, not very fine. He was passing you know the whole day, and even

during the night when we got back home. He didn't like the idea ofcourse,

but the important thing that we are done, at least until Sunday.

I remember him describing his stomach as a high way Smile

Still the urodynamic study next Sunday. I guess the main problem here

which we will be dealing with next is the GERD, or maybe there is another

thing a long with that.

Very Happy Hello,Navigator: Glad Brother's test didn't give any bad surprises.
I'm sure he'll do well with the urodynamic study, too. Will this doctor be able to test/treat Brother for the GERD, or will he be referred to a stomach specialist? Going from test to test, and doctor to doctor is tiresome, but it will be worth it to get Brother's health corrected Exclamation
All good luck and blessings,

Hi Linda, thanks Smile

The urologist said that we can refer him to a gastroenterologist on Sunday

after the urodynamic study that I think he will do well in it.

and yes, it is so tiresome to travel between all these tests.

I remember the nurse laughing after he saw the big injection used before

the x-ray. I think it was some kind of iodine injection.

Navigator: Hello! I've heard that some sort of special dye is used in those tests to make everything show up better.
I'm glad Brother will see a specialist Sunday. At some point the specialist may want to test Brother to see what is making him have GERD. Once the tests come back,Brother can begin a course of treatment that will make him feel 100% better.
Good luck,

Hi Linda, hi everybody. The urodynamic study test was fine except that it

was cancelled in the middle. That was because of brother couldn't hold the

urine for the time they wanted. Also, the stupid nurse hurt him in that

thingy, and he bled a little, until night he was urinating blood first then

urine. Well, the doctor and his nurse said that it was a normal measure!

Brother has a dire experience with bleeding, I'd tell you later. I thought

that it was a negative thing; the bladder not being able to hold the urine

for a certain time, but the doc said it was ok anyway.

I took the I.V.U x-ray and the results of the tests. It's against the law to

take a patient's documents from a state hospital, but nobody can resist my

charm Cool

Ok. After hours, I've another battle with another hospital with another

good urologist ( as far as I heard )

I'm also going to tell him about the reflux symptoms if I can say that. This

is the doctor who suggested that the whole problem is because the

damage of the spine, so the body is in a delusion or confusion state.

I hope this won't take time like a year Sad

Hello,Navigator: Did the doctor mean that he thought Brother's stomach was injured when he became paralyzed, and that made the GERD start?
I guess anything's possible, and Brother's paralysis has to be taken into account in every illness, but I've never herd of GERD being caused by physical trauma. Most folks I've known with GERD haven't had any physical trauma, just ulcers that are caused by the misguided acid eating a hole in the tissue. Good luck with your search for answers.

P.S. : That was crafty and sly{lol} to get the medical records !!

I can understand that damage to the spinal cord (the most important nerve in the body) could complicate the actions and reactions of both voluntary and involuntary muscles.

Have you propped up the head of the bed yet?

Noddy: Good Point . I hope that was the first thing the doctor recommended for easing the GERD symptoms. Raising either the head of the bed or the head and shoulders of the person helps keep the acid going in the right direction. My late paternal grandmother had GERD and hiatal hernia, and had to sleep with her head elevated or she'd have reflux problems.

Maybe I haven't explained this well, pardon my French Embarrassed

The urologist said that brother doesn't have anything! , it's only neuro

problem; no GERD, no stomach pain. He said that all this is happening

because of the spine damage. So, at the end he is fine

, but the destruction of the spinal

cord ( control the whole body ) would sometimes cause these symptoms.

He contacted a gastro doctor that said there is no need for any further

tests. When I told him about the diet and that he wants to get back to

normal food, he only said that we can gradually feed him the same old diet

but in steps so the body can get used to it.

I think a friend of him ( quadriplegia ) had the same problem with lower

bladder twinge or sting thing but he didn't have any stomach problem, it

took a year and he got back to normal after that. Every doctor he wanted

to see told him that he was ok.

But, brother had ( not now thank God ) hardness in breathing, stomach

troubles, sometimes a heavy chest that he feels. It is true that he is fine

now, but I think it's only because of the diet.

This is confusing, He might stay for a long time before he gets back his

health.

I still don't get how can the damaged spine cause all these things, and

what we can do is waiting for Mr.Spine so he can calm down and have

mercy on us!
