The first two sentences don't make any sense at all together.
The third sentence is a duh...if gods were visible...they wouldn't be gods....now would they?

@fresco,
Carl Marx was a cruel and cold man and he made up a cute little saying " Religion is the opiate of the masses" to further his own personal plans. So many people use religion or evolutionism or whatever to further their own personal plans to get power or money or whatever for themselves. You cannot judge the thing by what self-agrandizing and selfish people do with it. If we are going to start listing off all the people who have corrupted and used Christ to their own evil ends ... I am going to get bored pretty quickly. The list is never ending and repetitious. I read the Bible and try and do what Christ said to do. I am not in it for the money or the power , I am in it to serve Christ, because by doing that I am fulfilled. Life without that , for me, was empty and boring because it was all about me and what I wanted...now that is boring! I am not selling an afterlife. Everyone is going to have an afterlife... where they choose to spend it is up to them. If you cannot stand to be in the prescence of God now then you will not want to do it in the afterlife either. The one principle of hell is "I am my own" .

Swearing off women increases the love of them. And it prevents women having them by the balls. It stymies the matriarchy's influence.

If you took the trouble to research the matter you would find that the broad mass of women get it in the neck from a matriarchy. We had one for a very long time and it made no progess from start to finish.

Pookie,

Would you still "serve Christ" if there were no afterlife ?

@panzade,
They're invisible, because they are only imaginary in your mind; not because he makes himself visible. Any god if they wish could make themselves visible to humans. What better way to lead men/women than to be visible to humans? Man's creation of all gods are fakes; there ain't no such animal.

@fresco,
Yes, God not only has a plan for my 'afterlife' but He has the perfect plan for my 'life'. The Bible is the best prescription for a life well lived. God knows what is best for humans because He created us. He knows us intimately.

@cicerone imposter,
Jesus came to earth, lived a perfect life, healed the sick, gave sight to the blind, fed thousands, walked on water, raised the dead, rose from the dead and still did not convince the 'religious leaders' of His time. Exactly how do you convince someone who does not want to be convinced? Someone who is so blinded by their own personal need for power or prestige as the Pharisees were. Or someone who is so blinded by their need for freedom from the 'tyranny' of a God who loves them so much that He took all their sin and paid the price for it with His life and on the cross ,through all time.

@Pookie53,
It's beyond me that you can believe such obviously flawed notions.

How can one convince an extremist Taliban that he is on the wrong track?

Same with a Christian..

@Pookie53,
Pookie,

So let me get this straight. God created Hitler, knew him intimately, and used him as part of his "perfect plan" for some of his other creations. (Am I correct ?)

@Pookie53,
Pookie, The same god provided the great flood that killed millions of innocent people including babies. Natural disasters all over the world have killed millions, many "good" people including innocent babies.

So, what if god healed a blind man? That's only one against the millions he killed, many of them were innocent people that didn't even know about "this" christian god that was created (by man) only two thousand years ago.

Where's your logic?

Said his propagandists -- based on at least 40 years of hearsay following the alleged facts of the matter. Maybe the religious leaders didn't reject the Jesus story because they were blinded, or lusting for power and prestige. Maybe the story really wasn't all that convincing.

It must be nice to live such a simple life.

@Francis,
But you could just as easily say 'how can you convince an athiest that he is on the wrong track'
you can't
Every idea I have seen on this blog is a thought I had when I was an athiest.

@Pookie53,
What has that got to do with believing there's a "creator?"

We don't believe in the "poof" philosophy, because there is no evidence for it.

Don't forget how religion got created long before jesus of the bible.

@fresco,
yes of course God knew Hitler, but Hitler had free will and chose to follow Satan. Aha I'm sure you were all wondering when I would bring up his name.....
Even though people have depicted Satan as a cute little red devil with a pitchfork, I don't think you would really want to see him in person. He is not a cartoon character.
From Hitler and his atrocities came the rebirth of the Jewish State. I don't presume to know if that was God's will that so many jews and others had to die to have that happen, but it was a direct result of it.

Satan is another human creation just like your god. Look upon them as comic book characters; you'll get a good laugh.

@cicerone imposter,
Once Adam and Eve ate what God asked them not to, the world was not a perfect place any more. Sin entered and from sin came suffering and pain even to innocent babies. If God could stop sin then he would have to stop free will and we would all be robots. God wants us to choose him freely. A love that is coerced is not love. But we seem to always turn away from Him and try to find happiness in something other than God. When we keep God out of our lives then we can't whine about the consequences.
What do you put first in your life?
Yourself?
Money?
Sex?
Your intellect? you tell me

@Thomas,
That just proves my point . What miracle does God have to do to convince you?
Some people just will not be convinced. Because they don't want to be. That's fine , we have free will to choose what we believe.
You can call it propaganda and heresay but that is just your opinion.
I've read some history of the early Christians and I really don't see what their motivation could have been to preach and die for a false god. What a waste of time.. and they died horrible deaths usually.

@Pookie53,
I put "happiness" at the top of the list. That includes my family and friends, not some demented creation of any gods whose idea of a kind, loving father doesn't exist. The bible is full of vengeance by your god.

It also includes trying to live a healthy and rich life.

I love world travel, and I have seen over 150 countries - some are repeats.

I have friends all over the world including Australia, Singapore, Bhutan, Tanzania, Moscow, all over England, Paris, Germany, and all over the US.

I have also met many a2k members in Chicago, London, Lippstadt, Austin, and San Francisco. I will meet them again next month and in September.

I enjoy life for the now, not for some promise of an after-life.
