Does it matter whether an ophthalmologist's degree is MD or DO? Is one better than the other?

Not at all...the degrees are practically the same in our world today.

Many if not most hospitals hire both DO's and MD's actually, and they are integrated working side by side in virtually every field of medicine.

As a pre-med who has done research on both degrees, the only real difference between the 2 is about 1 class in medical school.

The generalization that an MD is better then a DO or vice versa just cant be made anymore. You can have horrible MD's and DO's and you can have phenominal ones. Depends on the individual.

Choose your opthamologist just like you would any doctor, ask around, see if hes a good doctor, his degree shouldnt matter. He just went to an osteophatic medical school if hes a DO instead of an alopathic medical school. Like i said, not much of a difference.
