J_B,

Thanks! I work downtown everyday (I go straight home after work so that I can pick up my six year old). A lunch gathering would be best for me.

Lunch downtown works for me as well. I need at least a day's advance notice. Otherwise I pack a lunch.

I'll be coming in and out of the city all week. It's possible I'll stay downtown one or two nights, haven't decided yet. Lunch is good, so is the Green Mill.

Hopefully Sublime will check in, I know he's busy during the week but maybe we could do lunch one day and Friday or Saturday evening at the Green Mill.

Smog, are you around/open at all next week? Is anyone else local or visiting?

J_B, I met one of the docents that does the Chicago river architectural cruise on my trip to Russia last month. Talk about six degrees of separation... She also knows Marshall, the fellow that did our bus architecural tour. Our world continues to shrink.

Calling all Chicagoans...

I'll be spending quite a bit of me-time in the city between the 18th and the 24th. Is anyone interested in getting together for dinner or drinks or music?

If it weren't those damned 14 hours in the planes ...

I am not available for lunch on July 21. Any other day looks good.

Then I'm ok with the 19th, 20th, or 24th.

JW?

J_B and joe,

I would prefer the 19th or the 20th.

Let's leave it open for now. As we get closer we can decide on one or the other. I'm not sure how much advance notice joe has on his court schedule or if you get meetings, etc., jw. Either is fine with me.

(Report in today's Tribune, section 3, page 1)

Could be an additional reason ...

That looks interesting, Walter. Individually, Eli's cheesecake and Frango mints are Chicago favorites. I have never seen the two combined before.

Mid-August, eh? Plenty of time for you to make your travel arrangements, Walter.

Frango and Eli's are certainly hometown brands, but I have a hard time associating Macy's with Chicago. Don't get me wrong, I loved shopping Macy's when I lived in the NE, but it somehow seems not right here.

Well, I bought my jeans and some other stuff at Marshall's Field - if they had been Marcy's at that time already, I would have got 11% discount (coupon from my [online] travel agency). Sad
