Macy's will probably give out a lot of freebies to placate fans of Marshall Fields. However, it looks like eoe is inconsolable.

I'll second that eoe.

I can't do lunch but would be interested in the Green Mill. You don't have to twist my arm too hard to get me there.

Walter, first chance I get I will sample the Frango/Eli's combo and report back. I'll send you a piece if you send me some Merci chocolate.

Some of my family was/is still there. Also my biggest client. I've been back for only funerals or for work these last few years but someday soon I'll get back there for fun. Maybe next summer. Actually, before the year is out, I'll probably be back there for work. Just for a day, tho. This time of year, I dread. You just never know weatherwise...

It's summertime, eoe, what do you say?

It is still a bit chilly here, only getting up to 96 today.

ehbeth, that might be a trade worth making. I ran out of the stash I brought back from Vienna a while ago.

Carson Pirie Scott fan here, as you all know. Though I did like Macy's in NYC and Marshall Field's in the 50's. Walking into Marshall Fields for a minute during the Chicago meeting 'week' was very disappointing - not sure if my memories were enhanced or the place diminished.

Merci chocolate from Vienna? No Mozartkugeln, Manner Schnitten or Sachercake?
Want some?

We have the only other Julius Meinl here in Chicago and they actually sell Mozartkugeln there, have to admit I haven't tried the others. I picked up the Merci chocolates on my friends parents recommendation.

Marshall Field's changed a lot when it was bought out by Dayton's and Hudson's. They kept the name but the store was very different.

When I visited Marshall Fields on my last visit to Chicago, it just didn't feel the same, but I thought it was because of the time span separation. hmmmm....

The temp will be in the 90s for the entire week. I normally avoid the city in the heat, but this week it won't matter a bit. This is the first week since moving to IL 18 years ago that I don't have to pay attention to the clock or a schedule for any reason, so I'm planning on enjoying it.

J_B,

Thursday would still be okay for me. Are any plans being made about Green Mill?
