My only regret is simply that we'll miss OBill at our next Chicago Gathering in June.
Don't be too certain. That's far enough out that I may have bounced back to my feet and landed on solid ground by then... and I too subscribe to the life theory of work hard and play harder! My new work is much like my old work, and I'm a hell of a lot better at it than I am at running restaurants. My contract leaves me independent, and my compensation is 100% performance related, so it's not as if I'll soon have someone to answer to.

I will be gone the weekend of the 24th. I am leaving Thurs night and going straight to work on Monday morning. I am up for a midweek trip and if it happens to be on Wed I have no time constraints.

Joe, whats wrong with a little crisp Chicago air? I only put the top on when it gets cold, you know like -50 or -60 degrees. Its been downright balmy the last few days.

It was balmy here in Silicon Valley today at 65; that's plus...

I was thinking about a Wednesday for that same reason, Sublime. This Wednesday is kinda close planning-wise and next Wednesday is the 28th. I'm open on the 28th if you and joe can make it and if Bill will still be in the area. Otherwise, we'll have to quickly agree on this Wednesday or wait to hear from Bill on what day he think he'll be coming through on his way south.

Bill - we'll come to you on either the 28th or the 21st (joe, please confirm a Wednesday evening works for you) or you can come to us any other time.

Wednesday the 28th works for me. If you like I could meet you somewhere in between? Let me know. And thanks again for being such a darling.

As long as I get back at a reasonable hour, I'm ok with either the 21st or 28th.

Before, it was a certain car roof, now it's a reasonable hour ...

(Reminds me of my wild ages when I was in school: when my parents asked about what time I came back, I always answered to their full content: "Shortly after half past.")

sublime is a darling, isn't he? Smile

Cool! joe is in for Wednesday. Sounds like we're up for a road trip on the 28th!

The only thing that comes to mind in between is the Mars Cheese Castle, and um, no thanks! Honestly, Bill, the where is completely up to you. I'm not at all familiar with anything north of Rt 50. If you know of an easy to find spot between us, then that would be fine. Otherwise, coming up to Port Washington or Cedarburg is also fine.

Pick a place that you enjoy. Your wallet is not a consideration other than it will need to contain your driver's license. You're the guest of honor, Bill. It's my (our) pleasure to bring it to you!

Be still, my heart. I haven't been out of these two towns much myself. Maybe JpNoLongerInMilwaukee can suggest a Fish Fry (not to be confused with Fish and Chips) that rivals the Duke somewhere in Milwaukee? Alternately, I know of a pretty good one in Mequon (about half way to Milwaukee, just off 43) that does it 7 days a week.

Hopefully jp will check in before long and give us some ideas (and indicate whether or not he can join us).

In the meantime, I have a couple suggestions for hooking up in Deerfield before venturing north...

Sublime, I can send you directions on getting to my place (jp too, if he can make it). We can meet here and then swing over to get joe (and perhaps jw) from the train. joe, the 4:40 express is the quickest train to me but, if that's too early, other trains leave Union Station about every 5-10 minutes until 5:30. We can all return here and then sublime can drop joe off on his way home.

or....

joe and sublime meet somewhere and come here together and return to the city together after dinner.

or....

??? whatever else that works and gets us on the road from Lake County somewhere around 6:00. I'm about 45mins from Milwaukee, maybe a bit longer in the evening rush hour.

Bill, a fish fry sounds good to me too. If it's in Mequon, then it's in Mequon. Being close to 43 is a plus... I probably failed to mention that we (I) got lost leaving Cedarburg in May and we ended up at a bar in the middle of nowhere asking for directions. Let's give jp a chance to chime in, but I know the three of us all enjoy fish (our last gathering was back at the Duke of Perth in December).

Still waiting to hear from Gargamel and an update from jp and JW on their availability for the 28th.

The 28th (one week from tomorrow) is as good a night as any for me. (My wife often comes up with last minute changes in my schedule.)

I am sorry about being so vague.

If I can make it, I could leave work early and meet up with joe and/or sublime.

Not to get sidetracked here but, if the news I heard today is true, then I am a very happy person!!!

I've just heard that Eric Clapton's Crossroads Guitar Festival will take place this summer in Chicago. The lineup is still in the works, but it will be held during the last weekend in July.

Here's the lineup from the Dallas 2004 show:
Sunday June 6, 2004
11:50am Neal Schon with Jonathan Cain
12:10pm Steve Vai & His Band
12:30pm Sonny Landreth
1:00pm Larry Carlton & His Band
1:30pm Pat Metheny Trio
2:00pm John McLaughlin
2:30pm The Robert Cray Band
3:00pm Jimmie Vaughan
3:20pm Hubert Sumlin with Guest Vocalist David Johansen
3:40pm Booker T and the MGs
3:50pm Bo Diddley
4:00pm David Hidalgo
4:30pm Joe Walsh
5:00pm Vince Gill with Jerry Douglas
5:30pm James Taylor & His Band
6:00pm Buddy Guy with Tilt-a-Whirl
6:30pm B.B. King with Tilt-a-Whirl
7:00pm Carlos Santana
8:00pm Eric Clapton
9:20pm Jeff Beck with Eric Clapton
9:45pm ZZ Top
10:30pm Finale with ZZ Top, Eric Clapton & Jeff Beck

If the lineup is even half this good..... Very Happy

Eric Clapton my be planning a second Crossroads Festival this year, taking place in July in Chicago. An Italian web site dedicated to former Mahavishnu Orchestra leader John McLaughlin (italway.it) reports that the guitarist -- who was part of the first Crossroads Festival in 2004 in Dallas -- would be part of the sequel on July 28th in the Windy City.

Stay tuned, dys. That was the 2004 lineup. I wouldn't be surprised if they did some of the music from The Road to Escondido.

Wait, Cale was part of the lineup in Dallas. That's what led to the collaboration that became The Road to Escondido.

Dunno, who's going to be here yet (besides ME, that is) Smile
