1:00 is kinda' late for me. How about 12:30?
12:30 is okay for me, joe.
The "starter-drinks" are on me.
(Someone should send me a working email address for getting back the money - via paypal  )
You miss Chicago! Right, Walter?
Now, that's a wild guess, wandel, really
It's stopped raining here and I think (hope) it might be out of the city by midday.

I just got back from having lunch with joe and J_B at South Water Kitchen (gus did not make it --- some problem with his carriage or his horse).
Thank you, osso, c.i., and walter for suggesting that restaurant. joe and i had never been there. we both liked the place and the food was excellent! (we were hungry and did not want to wait for gus to show up.)

Wise decision!
On the Chicago trip (schniff, tear rolling down face) I spent Sunday morning walking around the skyscrapers, and then along the river, always keeping my eye out for a place to at least get a cup of coffee. Hours went by.. and I got to be quite sorry I didn't stop when I had walked through the Palmer House - fancy as it was - early in the walk. Anyway, the South Water Garden is the cafe I found later in the morning, and I thought it was neat, a good place to sit alone, and a good place for talking with a group the day after that, food good both times.
Well, they were at the South Water Kitchen (not "Garden"), which is situated more or less opposite the café we had breakfast the first day - and that's when iI noticed it the first time
It has great food. I would recommend it to anyone. (Those of us who work in downtown Chicago usually bring lunches from home --- it would get expensive otherwise.)
wandel, I never took lunch to work after I earned my college diploma. It was one of my "rewards."
I usually had beer with my lunch.

I think the problem was with
Gus and the horse he rode in on.

I'm going to have to go back and try one of their TV dinners.
The food was great, the company even better (thanks for coming out in the rain, guys), prelunch and postlunch shopping were a success. All in all a very nice day downtown.
Tomorrow is museum day, followed by a concert at Millenium Park, hopefully followed by an evening at the Green Mill.
Sublime, are you available Friday night to meet at the Green Mill?
The last time I was in Chicago, down by the lake near Shedd's, I asked the lady at the desk of my hotel where a nice place for breakfast would be. She directed me to a convenience store around the corner which also served food. There were three tables inside, and flies buzzed around with impunity.
There were many interesting-looking homeless people milling about and because I prefer dining with the less pretentious people of the world, I invited a gentleman who was talking to himself and looking into a garbage can to join me for breakfast.
I bought the two of us a breakfast of scrambled eggs and sausage, with orange juice and coffee. He had an interesting story to tell when he managed to stay on track and the experience was rewarding.

Why wouldn't you ever leave CHicago? Wouldn't you like to see what sane, cultured folks are doing elsewhere?
What did you throw at me?
