Hi jeanfitz - Can't help you, sorry. Perhaps if you used them in a sentence? They appear to be self explanatory.

JGoldman - Not really, just the generic "bully" "scrapper" etc. but they are not gender specific terms. I quizzed the teenagers in my house...they offered "gangster chick," and/or "gangster girl," but were obviously reaching.

I was told "alpha" is a term that used for "a first -rate person". What is a "delta"?

Does anyone here speak French? I found two words in Quebec French:

"capable" and "robuste" which mean strong, robust. Cna they also be used as nouns?

Why are Royal Mounties referred to as barnburners?

i seem to recall that sometime during the 1960's the mounties were accused of having set a barn afire and used it later as evidence against someone to nail him. haven't heard the term "barnburner" before . i believe that this incidence took place in the prairies, so that term might possibly be in use there. hbg

Whisky Jack (Zo["o]l.), the Canada jay (Perisoreus
Canadensis). It is noted for its fearless and familiar
habits when it frequents the camps of lumbermen in the
winter season. Its color is dull grayish blue, lighter
beneath. Called also moose bird.
-----------------------------------------------------------
look at that. it sure is a new one for me - but i've lived in canada for only 49 years - still learning. hbg
