Oh, and when you get to that point, one other thing that helped tremendously was "feel and learn" pull-ups. Sozlet was wearing regular dry-feeling pull-ups at bedtime for a while after she was daytime potty-trained, and they were almost always dry in the morning but there were occasional wet ones, once every 6 weeks or something. Didn't feel quite ready to do away with them entirely.
Got the "feel and learn" ones (basically, they just actually feel wet, duh) and she HATED the feeling -- got two wet I think, then that was it, ever. Kept them on her for a while out of habit and then 6 months in or something realized hey, the last wet one was 5 months ago, what are we doing?? And stopped. No problems since (knock on wood).

They're all different, Linkat. Every one of them.
We can all give Shewolf the benefit of our experiences, but who know what will work with Bean! The important thing, I think, is not to force them.
Yeah - little Bean will show them all - Bean will be trained in a week at the delicate age of 18 months and with no weird hang ups as a result.
if that were true Link, i would wonder exactly what world she was from.
I have seen those ' feel wet' diapers.
i would think just really cheap diapers would feel the same way? haha!
bad side to that thought- we already use cheapies..
Ahhh that's what I do shewolfnm - I began to buy the cheapies - the lowest price I can find - figure I hope it makes her uncomfty - gives them an enticement and saves a few dollars for me too.
hmm.. maybe i can go cheaper... and , put some tighter underware on top? not to make her DROWN in it. hahah but to help her ' feel' wet..
she definatly squirms when she has pooped.
but not when she is just wet. maybe she cant feel it.
?
My sons were trained at the same time: 3 l/2 and almost 2. The younger boy was a very competitive child.
Yep--all at once.
My older son had little interest in personal sanitation. My younger son did not like being younger.
All at once.
That was probally the easiest most sensable approach to a housefull of boys..
but still..
thats amazing.
Shewolf--
Am I a lax mother because Older Son was slow?
Or super mom because Younger Son was competitive?
(I started with Older Son and Younger Son clamoured to join the party.)
Noddy, my younger son wanted to do everything his older brother did, except potty training. Naturally, he was also the kind of kid who was always placed in the outfield where, I swear, he was looking for toads in the grass...he simply took his own sweet time, but once he decided, he never had an accident.
Women have more humility and flexibility than most men because of exposure to young children of both sexes.

No.
You sound like an organized super mom who knew how to make the bandwagon big enough for the youngest to jump on as well.
I think it was Eva who said she got a toilet seat insert for her bathroom for her son..?
are those better?
should I start with a free standing tiny portable toilet?
Im leaning twords the free standing one. Mostly because .. truth be told.. I need to be trained first. So i figure, if i can carry it with me and catch her, we can get her to understand the potty use..
BUT- a bonus to this could be her using the 'big' toilet like she sees me do...?
We did freestanding first, then the toilet seat insert.
The freestanding one is plain littler, less intimidating.
and.. another bonus i just thought of..
she can get to it on her own if necessary..
hmm.. sold.
Oh, the getting to it on her own thing is a huge part of the puzzle.
The one we got had a lid that converted it into a step stool. (Er, stool in this context... anyway.) So she used her little potty for the first forays (at a year or whatever) and then gradually increased her usage for quite a while (9 months?), and then we did the toilet seat insert with the old potty in step stool mode in front of the big potty for her to climb up there. Seemed to provide some contnuity.
what kind of potty was it? do you remember the brand?
Bean is quite the tall baby . For 18 months old she is 35 inches tall and 30 lbs. Her doc thinks its strange.
then he met Mr wolf. hehe
I am wondering if that kind of potty will actually be a good height for her with out the step stool?
Hmm, can't find a pic.
This is the brand, (Safety 1st) but they don't seem to make the exact one we have anymore. The one we had just has a lid that when it's down makes the whole thing into a step stool. This is more elaborate:
To clarify -- the potty itself didn't HAVE a stool (just plop down on it), the potty itself BECAME a stool, to be able to reach a regular potty.
