CNN just reported that huge areas of Los Angeles has lost all electric power.
Well, Angelenos, sadly welcome to electrical-challenged Baghdad and the Gulf Coast.

(Shortest news story ever as of now):
Quote:16 minutes ago
LOS ANGELES - A major portion of Los Angeles lost power Monday afternoon. Outages were reported from downtown to the San Fernando Valley.
The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power did not immediately have an explanation for what happened.
That's it.
That Ken Lay! He's such prangster. Probably feeling a little ignored.
reuters:
"We are trying to get a handle on it," spokeswoman Kim Hughes said, adding: "We think it's a transmission problem."
A spokeswoman for the Los Angeles Police Department said outages were reported across downtown Los Angeles, Koreatown, North Hollywood, Burbank and in the San Fernando Valley. Officials said power had not been lost at Los Angeles International Airport

It's now 1:30 pm in Los Angeles. Hope they get it fixed before rush hours traffic.
Report that the L.A. airport is partially operating on generators, but it mess up air traffic, too.

Damn.
Thanks for the heads-up, bbb.

People calling for help who are stuck in elevators.
At least it's not a really hot day, only 72 degrees.
Police have been ordered to stay on duty after their shift ends.

So, it's only been out for like 30 minutes?
<I wouldn't call 30 minutes "only"

statistically speaking,
long bouts of no electricity bring about a population increase.
Remember that black out in NY ?
The one in California?
10 months later the birth rate is higher then normal ;-)
I just called my ex, who has an office not too far south of the airport, and it was the first he heard of it. He did remind me that different parts of LA region work from different companies/power bases, but that it could roll over..

Shewolf, it's too late for a nooner and too early for bedtime. Of course, there are always the back seats of cars stuck on the streets, I guess.

Walter - For some reason never explained, Raleigh, (yes, the major metropolitan area home to thousands of Research Triangle Park workers and the Southeast being home to Duke Power) is constantly losing power.
It is not unusual for us to have brown / black outs at least a couple of times per month even when the skies are beautiful Carolina blue.
Pfffft!
Too late for a nooner!
LOL!
Never too late. Ya just adjust the clock, silly.

The only time California had constant brownouts and some blackouts was when Ken Lay's Enron was playing chicken with the citizens of the state.

Well, such would cost electricity companies a lot of compensation for damages here, I suppose.
Quit making the elevator rock...
sorry, not funny.
I was stuck in an elevator once after work hours, was helped out by the janitor - I started making noise when I heard the other elevator stop and open at our floor (after about an hour). That was an easy situation - I can imagine people's reasonable fear in other situations.
