Boris and Natasha's Place
Moose and squirrel stew
Kalachandji’s
A lacto-vegetarian Indian (Ayurvedic art of cooking) restaurant run by the Krishna Temple (Hare Krishna) in Dallas.
"We strictly refrain from using meat, fish, eggs, onion or garlic."
I remember 50 years ago when I went there a few time for the simple buffets, and for a few bucks donated you could eat Indian vegetarian food.
Now, they're well established and the food is priced like any restaurant. Lunch is $15 and dinner is $19. The menu is varied and complex and probably good but priced for the middle class.
Igore's Cafe
It's not alive, but it could be soon
MUTTS Canine Cantina
There are a number of canine friendly restaurants in Dallas, and this is one of them. This particular cafe has an attached 3/4 acre park where your dog can run free.
All of these pet restaurants have outdoor
patios that allow leashed dogs to accompany you as you eat and drink. Many also include a menu for your dog.
The Crypt Keepers Bar and Grill
All the chops, liver slices, and steaks don't exactly taste like chicken
Dinner theatres
I went to one years ago. They did The Odd Couple, a well-known story. It didn't interfere, and you could enjoy your meal.
Now, there are murder mystery dinner theatres and you have to watch the perplexing case being solved. There are two problems: first, it's murder and you're eating. Second: Your attention competes with the meal. Which is most important?
Dinner theatre's are fine! But keep them simple.
The World Series at Los Angeles 2025 is probably not the best place to have a meal, but whattaya gonna do? If you're at a ballpark, you have to eat and drink. It's too loud to sleep.
At a Los Angeles Dodgers World Series game, expect a plain Dodger Dog to cost around $8- $9 and a small beer to be in the range of $7−$15.
Other food items like the new 16-inch Slugger hot dog can cost up to $40.
These prices may seem very expensive, but if you're paying between $700 and $8,000 for a seat, then $9 for a hot dog and $15 for a beer probably wouldn't bother you. Go ahead, have one. Have 10.
.
I've seen Mexican food venders on the streets of Cockrell Hill (Dallas) with pedal-propelled food carts, rolling restaurants, selling tamales and other hot food. I've never tried it, but it's probably good.
.
Cracker Barrel
How quaint. Back to the country store and buying crackers stored in a barrel.
The term "cracker" has a less than a wholesome, quaint meaning. It was a disparaging term used as far back as Shakespeare's time to the old South. It usually refers to the poor and poorly educated and is derogatory, but sometimes used as a term of pride.
But, I don't understand all the conflict about changing the sign, and I don't care. I've never been to cracker Barrel store, nor have I even seen one.
Dining on Amtrak
Unless you're booked in an expensive bedroom or roomette, there is no diner car service on Amtrak. What's left? There is a Cafe Car with a microwave to heat up purchased, pre-packaged sandwiches and hamburgers, stuff you wouldn't want to eat. Your only other option is to bring your own food. You can bring a small cooler for your food, but you can't use their microwave to heat it up.
Alcohol is allowed for purchase in the Cafe Car. You can drink it on board, but only in specified locations. If you're in coach, you can't bring it on board. If you have a private room, you can bring it.
Have a nice trip.
Jiminy Cricket John's
Not related to the famous chain restaurant, Jimmy John's.
We specialize in serving you only the finest terrestrial arthropods.
Pequod Mess
If it's the captain's mess let him clean it up.
Benihaha Japanese Restaurant
Our food is no joke, no matter what people think.
Phan Gu Restaurant
Caters to those who eat their octopuses alive. Our octopuses are big. You have to fight them to determine who eats who.
Olive Grove
Unsuccessful variation on the successful original restaurant, Olive Garden. We added a fake, plastic olive tree in the decor, but otherwise, the food was the same.
Ted's Greasy Spoon
Is it dishwater or soup? Only Ted knows for sure.
Rainforest Cafe
Imagine sitting in a rainforest in Minneapolis in January. The Rainforest Cafe opened in the Mall of America in 1994 and still functions, more or less.
The restaurant is similar to a real rainforest except for a lack of real trees and plants, mosquitoes and other insects, living birds and animals, high heat and humidity, and everything else. Otherwise, it's the same.
Boomerang Grill & Diner
Don't feel bad about sending your food back. We're used to it.
Schwarzenegger's bar and grill
"You'll be back."
