@Real Music,
No I'm not, it's too much hassle for me.

@izzythepush,
1. Don't get me wrong. I know lots of people who love the self-checkout.

2. Me personally, I prefer the Cashier Express Lanes that have become nonexistent in recent years.

3. If I could, I would start some type of petition for the return of the Cashier Express Lanes.

4. If they had all three, the Cashier Regular Lanes, the Cashier Express Lanes, and the Self-Checkout, I would be fine with.

5. My problem is that they abolished the Cashier Express Lanes to be replace by the Self-Checkout.

6. They took something from me. They took away Cashier Express Lanes.

7. Just imagine if they were to take away from you Self-checkout and replace it with something that you don't particular like.

@Real Music,
They did that in the Lidl in Shaftesbury.

That's an older more affluent population from where I am.

I live off a main high street, three big supermarkets in walking distance. I don't tend to do a big shop, just daily visits for a few items.

@Real Music,
Yes I remember express checkouts. I don't think we have them here any more either but I never go to the supermarket for just a few things so I can't be completely sure of that. My closest supermarket is ab0ut 35km away so I only ever go there to do a full shop.

@izzythepush,
I would love to live within walking distance of a supermarket. It would make life so much easier.

@cherrie,
It's not all good.

Parking outside my house is a real problem.

we fill up a large cart once a week at the supermarket.

there's no way in hell we'd ever self-checkout all that.

but we do our own bagging to speed up the process.

the cashiers love us...

FYI, there was an article about 3 months ago in The Washington Post that said some stores are dealing with a lot of theft via the self-checkout lines. Who could have seen that coming?

@glitterbag,
Carrots are a favourite tool, people mark higher priced items as carrots.

Our self service areas aren't unmanned.

In Lidl you have to scan your receipt to get out.

@izzythepush,
Not in our supermarkets, they have so much trust in their customers they are gambling that no one would try to steal food. I should have typed 'gambling' in all caps.

@glitterbag,
I doubt they get a whole lot more theft than they did before self checkouts. And I really doubt it's enough to offset their savings in reduced cashier hours.

@thack45,
Maybe, but they manage to charge enough to make sure they don't lose 'real' money, the big stores don't give a crap about the cashiers and other workers.
