Kickypoo has failed miserably, miserably, at posting his trip photos here on a2k. I decry his sheer sluggishness on this, in a motherly a2k way.

Not to exclude JoeFX, who is way more tuned in now than I am.

I'm just avid, like a leech.

Lechesa?

(among my faults, I make up italian words...)

And Raphillon has been helpful to a lot of us; I hope to meet him when I get to go to Rome again.

Stray Cat, the post says September, but it's actually 2005... I went and came in one piece so, according to my grandpa, the trip was a success.

I didn't go to Verona because I thought I had a 'feel' of northern Italy but mostly because I was only there for four months and I was 'studying'. Would've been nice though... to be honest, opera is not something that interests me, never been to one so that might change the day I go although I'm sure I would've enjoyed the festival. (how many times did I contradict myself there?)

I didn't begin to get opera until I was near 50, and still can't sit easily through whole operas. (Just give me the beef, already, with the arias... sad, I know).

Impruneta is a small town outside Florence. I rode out to it last year on a bike I rented one day. It was small, and quiet, and there was one little place in the town center that sold the best freakin' gelato ever. Or maybe it just seemed that way because I was riding around on a bike in freakin' Italy!

Anyway, just one of many excellent memories I have of my Italy trip. I went to Venice, Florence, Rome and Sorrento. I don't have a thread about my actual trip because I just didn't have the energy to go through it all on A2K, but I will be interested in hearing about your plans, and will definitely give you any help I can.

Lashing Kicky...

I think it was Impruneta we turned at, having rented a fiat panda in firenze and heading toward who knew where in Chianti... I was driving, and got off the autostrada at, I think, Impruneta. Or, I-Something. At that time of year the road through the hills was mostly leafless, and the overhead sky was storm impending. I took a few photos as we pulled over to just stare...
and then did some paintings later. Nothing special re paintings or photos, just that I had a kind of place nailed in my memory. I wasn't in love with Tuscany or any such drivel yet, just being there. Now I can delineate the poplars in my mind...

Joe, that's what I get for not reading the whole thread! Glad you made it back safely. I'm sure you had a wonderful and interesting time.

My friend loved his time there. Osso, the place you're referring to may well be the amphitheatre my friend went too. He's a big opera fan and he saw three of them over the course of three days there.

I wish I could post some of his pictures here. Maybe I'll ask him if I can. The pictures he took of the Aida production at the amphitheatre are fantastic, but so are the other pics he took of Italy.

In fact, he's traveled all over Europe and he's now putting together a DVD of his pictures, complete with musical accompaniment! I can't wait to see it! Wish I had that kind of skill!

If and when I get to go I'll let you know, Raphillon. Maybe we can meet to have pizza, or at least an espresso, even if your schedule is full.
