How to become dictator of the U.S.

So if you were a Presidential Candidate who wanted to be dictator of the U.S., or maybe a Putin Style dictator, or admired Chinese or North Korean dictators, how would you go about making it happen?

I think that that after setting up the conditions (further below), the one further thing you would have to do is - go to war with an opponent not just capable of threatening the U.S., but who will cause signficant and literal damage to the U.S. homeland. Why? Because:

- you want to time this war create the emergency conditions that would allow the public to swallow (or at least not openly oppose) the cancellation of the elections.

From here, you want the war to stretch on for at least one year past the inauguration date, but more likely two years past that date. This would achieve two further things:

- allow the dictator presumptive to make mass changes while the public is distracted by the war
- enable everyone to get used to the concept of a 'President' sitting beyond what is constitutionally allowed.

Prior to that, you want to, to the extent possible:
- stack your security team with loyalists (needed for when you cancel the elections)
- choose judges on loyalty only (needed for when you cancel the elections, to delay proceedings as long as possible, to enable the populace to get used to you having broken the constitution)
- stack your heads of law enforcement with loyalists
- ensure your strategists are utterly loyal, rather than party political
- gain as much control of the media as possible
- create as much drama as possible.... and continually lay it as the feet of the opposition (this latter part is what you want control of law enforcement for)
- get your voters either anxious, or extreme (for you as the dictator presumptive of course)

After you have started the war, and while the public are distracted, you would start replacing further heads of law enforcement until it became clear that the only way to get promoted was to be utterly loyal to the dictator presumptive...and to come down hard on any law enforcement agent that would be 'disloyal' to the dictator presumptive, to create fear in the agency of going against anything the dictator presumptive does.

AFter this stage, you then create a series of internal catastrophies, and have your law enforcement loyalists suggest the catastrophies, apparently done by China...oops, the enemy in the War.... had to have internal help

This allows you to set up a very legitimate special task force within law enforcement. Their purpose? Identify how these catastrophes occurred and whether or not internal dissenters were working for the enemy.

After sufficient time for an 'investigation'....surprise, surprise, you identify that it is leaders of the opposition that have worked with the enemy to cause the catastrophies...and arrest them on treason.

"My fellow Americans. In this time of trial, in the face of the great Enemy, evil has embedded itself in the Dem <oops, opposition> Party. The depth of this evil, we cannot know. In this time of war, with the Dem...<oops, opposition> Party working with Chi<oops, the enemy>. At this moment in time, we cannot in good faith to the American People, go to an election. Rest assured that I will do everything possible to root out any further enemies of the people. That I will once again set up an opposition worthy of your faith... (you get the idea)

...well, I'm sure that there would be a bit more to it than that, and none of it is simple. The one thing you do need is fanatical loyalists in the right positions.
