Teeny, candle lit plus many hopeful prayers sent for your familes safety.
Morning, all. Hate to start the day on a gloomy note, but this needs to be shared:

New Orleans, maybe they've checked in to
confirm they're alive.

I think I just threw my sacroiliac out of whack.
(BTW, what the heck is one's sacroiliac?)
Sorry, that's wrong. The sciatica is the nerve.
First DRY, breezy day in months. All the windows wide open.

BEAUTIFUL! Thank You!
Received phone call from Florida, letting me know that 3 sisters I grew up with are safe there. One is a Professor at Xavier University and the other two teach high school students! We all attended Xavier Univ. Prep scheoll together. It's under water, too! Entered relatives name on craigslist.com and CNN. I take exception to American Citizens being called "refugees"! They were evacuated making them "evacuees". Refugees are from Cuba and Haiti or Mexico. Being from there and it's my home-town, I really resent resorting to one of the oldest community of color with its' rich, cultural, history, being relegated to that status, as though we are some, "other"! The news media are as guilty, for insinuating us back, to almost "slave" status! Are the so-called "shelters", concentration camps?
People left with the clothes on their backs! You'd be smelling to high heaven if you hadn't bathed or eaten in 5 days too.
Glad to hear that you've had some good news about family, TeenyB.
The language that's come out of what's happened to the Gulf Coast is distressing. When I caught a few minutes of Aaron Brown on CNN on Wednesday or Thursday night, he was reacting to someone using the term refugee - wasn't taking it well at that point. By last night, it seemed to be standard. My mother was a refugee within her own country 60+ years ago. Is it different to use the term for Americans? I don't know.
Not a good thing to be, wherever you are and wherever you're from.

Hi teeny, thank God your family is safe and ok. It is certainly a good thing to have happen.
I have just heard from our friends who live in Ocean Springs, MS. They are alive and well and rode out the Katrina in their home. It flooded, but is still standing - albiet they said a tree is now sharing the garage with what remains of their auto. I am so glad they are alive and ok.
Hey, Wildclickers!! We are swiftly headed for 50 ACRES!!

aww, Teeny ~ such good news! Thank you for letting us know that your sisters are safe!
I thought "refugee" a bit much defining American citizens in their own country as foreigners <or referring as much> and I agree with eBeth ~
"refugee" a sad word in any language-but then what can we expect from some people in the news media. Not apparently. The people of New Orleans and MS are "victims" of a level 5 hurricane - and to blame poor folks that had no means of transportation <or a summer home to evacuate to> - ludicrous. Will be interesting seeing how the rebuild will accomodate all the poor residents of New Orleans. Oh, and btw, the teenager that took the school bus and loaded all the people in it - then drove to the superdome - should receive a medal!
Danon, just arrived home from work and read both yours and Teeny's posts ~ so happy you and Pattie heard from your friends from Ocean Springs!
We have much to celebrate today!
sumac, very sad news regarding the Barrier Islands, people, wildlife, and the eco-system affected by the the hurricane. Devastating.
Sorry to disagree, but I, for one, don't see what's wrong with the word "refugee." A refugee is a person displaced from his/her home and seeking refuge (safety). It has nothing to do with ethnicity or nationality. The media is using the word in its commonly accepted dictionary meaning, that's all.
Nice card Stradee. We are fortunate in that we may Celebrate this storm.
Great to have you back, Merry Andrew.
