We have no word about our friends. The recently shown pictures of the area where they lived are frightening.

I have listed my home as a house share with hurricanhousing.org, an offshoot of MoveOn.org, and will do so in other places.

Will also contact local universities in case they have some last minute students coming into the area who need housing. They will also need a car though because I am pretty far away.

Welcome Sanctuary and lastmoderate !!!!!

We are glad to have you here clicking to help save rain forest.

One of our friends from Pass Christian, MS - one of the hardest hit areas - called today. She is with relatives in Jackson, MS and just today the power was restored. She said her home is reported to be still standing although she hasn't seen it.

Still no word about our friends in Ocean Springs.

We're getting a taste of drier, cooler air starting today.

Cleaning up old plants and stalks in the garden to put on pile of brush and stuff collected months ago. Will have a proper bon fire soon.

Making a pot roast. Now that is a cool weather meal so I must be anticipating.

Clicked.

Happy birthday week to you, Teenyboone!

Just going to reply here to say thanks to all of you. I really appreciate it.

Now, for the bad news. On Friday Night, I received emails and phone calls from my sisters in New Orleans, to say they were leaving for Houston, Texas, due to Katrina, headed their way. They are safe, thank God. I received at least 12 phone calls and emails from family and friends inquiring about my sisters. My sister Beth, sold her bed and breakfast in Pass Christian, Ms., a year ago and she lives in East Orange, NJ. Her Chinese antique chests are here with her and the Art Deco bar my mother left to me and I gave to her, has all of its lovely things inside. I hugged her hard when I saw her yesterday. The man she sold it to, called her after having $100K of renovations done, to say it is gone. Pass Christian was the Hawaii, of the Gulf Coast. Only the very well off, live there. As a child, I loved passing the palm trees, the gardens, the old cypress trees, etc. You'd never know you were in Mississippi, from the horror stories told about it. I don't know the whereabouts of many cousins and other relatives residing there. Until my niece moved from Manhatten, I was the only one living away, out of the South and the Gulf, in particular. I just need all of you to light one candle, for those left behind or unable to get out ,after the levee broke. Thank You.

Definitely lighting a candle for everyone tonight.

Perhaps appropriately, it'll be a big citronella candle.
