Wild Card Canasta After Initial Meld

If partner has already made an initial meld for our team, could I then put down a Wild Card Canasta for our team when my turn comes? I would guess that the answer is no. You'd be limiting our team's chances of completing the Wild Card Canasta as well as any other Canastas for our team & the opponents.
