I miss the old times when record albums were $3.99 and nickel candy bars cost a nickel. When poor people could afford housing too. I have to blame the leaders of both parties for such developments because it all went downhill on both watches. I am old enough to have watched it all happen. When I was nineteen I read in Philip Wylie's books that democracy as it existed for the majority in the early to mid 20TH Century was extremely fleeting and not likely to last. It has been like watching a snowball roll down a hill all my life, gathering in girth and weight. And now we reap as has been sowed.

I came across this. I hope it's not wholly true.

4,000 detainees are being held in a 500-person-capacity Miami detention center & they've slowly begun the process of killing them.
They’re giving them one cup of water every 24 hours.
They've already killed 3 of the detainees this way.
When they arrive, there often isn’t room for the new detainees. They’re held chained up on buses with no access to food, water, or restrooms. They’re told to urinate and defecate in the floor. They’re packed 27-deep into tiny holding cells leaving basically only standing room and told to sleep on the floor.
These are not people with criminal records. (As if that would justify this treatment).
This isn’t a rumor or a lie. Phones have been smuggled in and videos from inside have been released. Multiple people have spoken to attorneys and reporters and all have given similar accounts to this.
This is a concentration camp. Full stop.
This is the definition of a concentration camp.
The United States is putting people into concentration camps and I’m begging y’all to pay attention, attend protests, call your representatives, and find any way you possibly can to make yourselves heard. This will not just magically stop.

Special update coming tomorrow.
I have a few things I have to say, and I want to admit to you publicly, that because of the current conditions of the United States, saying so may have great consequences to me personally.
It must be said.
This genocide has been going on for 538 days. It's evil. It's pure unadulterated evil. On our watch. In our lifetime. And for most of us, with our tax money.

In the past when I argued deportations the other guys always would say, "They are breaking the law." Case closed. Now that people who have broken no laws are getting targeted they are going to have to come up with a new rationale.

In the Uvalde school shooting they recorded the sounds of gunshots and children screaming out in terror before getting blown away. As cops stood in the hall, doing nothing. People were outraged, sickened - whatever. In Gaza, whole families are getting blown away in the most recorded genocide in history. While the world watches and does nothing.

The Democrats coasted on the fumes of The New Deal until it wouldn't go no more, promising to fix it back "by increments." Calling Biden the most progressive President since Roosevelt was a cruel joke many fell for. Meanwhile he pushed a non agenda at home and put all of his energy into endless war. There was little to no push against purging voters and setting up voting machines that could be manipulated. They fought harder against the left than against Republicans. They actually courted Republicans for their support. Even now there are very few Democrats actually doing anything to thwart Trump's power grab. It would take a lot to restore the party and regain the people's trust. Unfortunately, they don't have people with integrity to even begin.

Here's the real kick about how Trump's tariffs are going to hike prices for everything: Once that happens, even if the tariffs go away, the prices are never, ever going back down again.

Trump has done it — imposing a 10 percent tariff on all trading partners as well as double-digit tariffs on dozens of other countries that Trump regime officials say have treated the United States “unfairly,” whatever that means.
Also in his speech yesterday, Trump confirmed that a 25 percent tariff on foreign-made automobiles would go into effect on Thursday, April 3. Imports of cars and car parts from Canada and Mexico will be especially affected.
The tariffs will apply to more than 100 trading partners, including a staggering new 34 percent tariff on Chinese goods (on top of the 20 percent tariff Trump already imposed, bringing its total tariff rate on Chinese imports to a whopping 54 percent), a 20 percent tariff on imports from the European Union, a 24 percent tariff on goods from Japan, and a 26 percent tariff on goods from India.
Energy and certain minerals not available in the United States will be excluded. Other products, like lumber, copper, semiconductors, pharmaceuticals, and critical minerals could face additional tariffs.
What are the consequences? It’s a colossally stupid move that will drive up prices for American consumers and manufacturers while eliciting retaliation from other nations. Stock and bond markets continue to slide.
And as I've said previously, tariffs are not a magic wand. They do not automatically increase U.S. manufacturing capabilities or production of American made goods. And as we saw during Trump's first term, he was willing to dole out exemptions in exchange for donations to the Republican party.
But what should other nations do? My strong recommendation to Canada, Mexico, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the European Union is to join together to create a free trade zone that excludes the United States, imposing at least a 10 percent tariff on all imports from America.
They should also threaten to limit American banks’ access to their public stock markets, put limits on what their citizens can invest in American companies annually, and increase taxes and regulations on American digital platforms.
They will be tempted to negotiate and do so individually. They should not. They need to negotiate from a position of strength. A non-U.S. free trade union will give them that strength.

🚨🚨🚨82% and 83% of US Senators just voted THIS MORNING to send the largest bombs in the world to Israel.
$8.8 BILLION for the deadliest bombs in the world. As our economy tanks.
Let’s be VERY clear. This genocide is an American genocide.
And it’s a bi-partisan genocide.
It’s Democrats and Republicans.

Even the Nazis didn't bomb hospitals and kill medics. How much more will collective humanity cede to the racist fascists in Israel? How do you sleep while Palestinians are literally starving and children are now the conscious targets in Gaza.

@edgarblythe,
That's not true.

During the blitz the following hospitals were evacuated after being bombed by the Nazis: Fulham Hospital, St George-in-the-East (three times), St Andrew's, St Leonard's, St Matthew's, Mile End Hospital, St Giles', St Peter's (twice), St Pancras' and St Luke's.

Stick to the truth, no more "American alternative facts" please.

@edgarblythe,
Making false comparisons between the IDF and the Nazis, that can be easily disproven, does nothing to help the Palestinian cause.

It's counter productive and helps make the argument that support for Palestine is rooted in antisemitism.

If you really care about the Palestinians, stick to the truth.

What the IDF has done is bad enough, it doesn't need any embellishment.

Buffet's take:
Warren Buffett, "I could end the deficit in 5 minutes," he told CNBC. "You just pass a law that says that anytime there is a deficit of more than 3% of GDP, all sitting members of Congress are ineligible for re-election. The 26th amendment (granting the right to vote for 18 year-olds) took only 3 months & 8 days to be ratified! Why? Simple! The people demanded it. That was in 1971...before computers, e-mail, cell phones, etc. Of the 27 amendments to the Constitution, seven (7) took 1 year or less to become the law of the land...all because of public pressure.
I am asking each addressee to forward this email to a minimum of twenty people on their address list; in turn ask each of those to do likewise. In three days, most people in The United States of America will have the message. This is one idea that really should be passed around.
*Congressional Reform Act of 2019*
1. No Tenure / No Pension. A Congressman collects a salary while in office and receives no pay when they are out of office.
2. Congress (past, present & future) participates in Social Security. All funds in the Congressional retirement fund move to the Social Security system immediately. All future funds flow into the Social Security system, and Congress participates with the American people. It may not be used for any other purpose.
3. Congress can purchase their own retirement plan, just as all Americans do.
4. Congress will no longer vote themselves a pay raise. Congressional pay will rise by the lower of CPI or 3%.
5. Congress loses their current health care system and participates in the same health care system as the American people.
6. Congress must equally abide by all laws they impose on the American people.
7. All contracts with past and present Congressmen are void effective 7/1/19. The American people did not make this contract with Congressmen. Congressmen made all these contracts for themselves. Serving in Congress is an honor, not a career. The Founding Fathers envisioned citizen legislators, so ours should serve their term's), then go home and back to work.
THIS IS HOW YOU FIX CONGRESS!

Because of our more immediate access to known figures, it's important to temper our parasocial relationship between these individuals (whether they in media, politics or entertainment).
As an individual who's known by a mere hundreds of people (most don't know who I am) It's important for me an independent media to advise that there's no cult of personality around me (while my notoriety is still extremely small).

I am flawed. I make mistakes. I transgress. Too many times I see viewers (especially a political figures or independent media figures) develop a cult of personality around known people and any critique of them is seen as an insult or defamation of the persons character. This is part of the individualism that plagues our country. It's falsely believed that an individual can save us even when it comes to media or politics. I believe our faith should be in the collective, we the people. We must divorce ourselves from this individualistic mindset that places individuals above ourselves in this sociopolitical climate.

Only then will we be able to change the culture to one that places that needs of the many over the needs of the few to make a more just and dignified society.

This will take critical thinking about the opinions and views of the people we listen to or the media we consume. We may find that they don't jive with our values as closely as we thought and should take what they say with a grain of salt.

But this is best because humans are imperfect and it's better to focus on the collective to push for real liberation than the individual.

I HOPE that's what I instill in my presentations with every bit of content I do and I know despite my imperfections, I will continue to do better. I hope more people in my position do the same.

When people blame people like me for Trump my simple answer is, "I have protested the direction we are headed since the mid 60s while virtually everyone else allowed themselves the delusion that voting the lesser of two evils would set us right. Instead of making demands they said, we can't have pie in the sky (human rights and a safety net), our leaders are virtually helpless to help out. By increments we will carefully roll back the deluge engulfing us. Instead of fawning over politicians you hold their feet to the fire, even supposed sympathetic ones.
