How do you deal with in-grown toenails? I've been keeping them short, but that only helps so much. Does anyone have any tips for me?

Actually, I may not have ingrown topanails at all. After googling, my problem seems a different one. Hmmm.... how to explain it.....?

The websites I looked at seem to mention the sides of the toenails growing into the flesh on the side of the nail bed. Or something. My nails grow past the wick (spelling?) and then curl into the flesh towards the end of my toe. Make sense?

I'll just keep talking to myself for another post.

Sites recommend a salt-water soak, daily, and a wedge of cotton under the curling edge of the nail.

Could your shoes be pressing on the ends of your nails?

I have the same problem. Noddy24 is right---it is possible that it is the type of shoes that you wear. When worn often, snug fitting dress shoes seem to aggravate it more than loose fitting tennis shoes.

My feet are still growing. I just had to up-size again. I'd suggest that you have your feet measured, lil'k. I would also see a podiatrist about those nails.

best advice is to wear roomy comfy shoes for a few weeks+see how that improves things.
If it is a ingrown toe nail, cutting your nail very short can make it worse, or even cause them.
See a chiropodist/podiatrist!

The shoe idea is a good angle, but I wear very comfy shoes. I rarely (once a month, maybe) wear shoes that have a heal on them. My day-to-day are llbean mocs or my new keens which have contoured footbeds and wide/high toe boxes. In the summer I wear flip-flops just about all of my waking hours.

I had a physical today and didn't bring up the toenails, there was enough to talk about and the appt was so late that I nearly missed another appointment.

But, thanks for the thoughts. Perhaps the whole thing got started back when I was wearing covered-toe shoes.

Oh, and I am going to try to handle the nails without cutting them so short, I'll try to file the cutting edge first.

This is a very exciting thread. I lament the fact that I wasn't here from the beginning.

I have a remedy.

Chop off the feet.

Or at least show us pictures of the beauties!

Hellll no. I know a guy that does though...every time I saw him when I was with my ex he'd ask me if I have bought her any toe rings or anything, and comment how nice her feet were...in front of her.

Freak.

And for the record, I don't have any fetishes.

But I pay women to poop on me.

uhhuh.

Ok, back to my toenails. I filed under the nail where the nail was curving into my toe. If feels better and isn't too short. We'll see how this works.

I know you're all riveted.
