@George,
It’s unnecessary torture. 2 weeks is a good break for the players when they have minor injuries but what football,player at this point in the season ONLY has minor injuries? Plus this playoffs season is a bit special due to the competitiveness. Not having Brady or Rodgers in it shines a different light on matters..

@edgarblythe,
Same here. I check standings in baseball during the season but rarely watch a regular season game. Because I’m in so FL we go to one or two spring training games as there’s a stadium in our city. If Ihad to travel far to see it, I wouldn’t bother.

Basketball watching for me is a matter of either watching the highlights and a complete viewing of a finals game or two. Used to love NHL hockey but not so much anymore.

This man is a local hero to Houstonians. He owns a furniture business but he is very active in the community.

Mattress Mack places largest mobile wager in sports betting history, Caesars Sportsbook says
Jim "Mattress Mack" McIngvale's $4.5 million bet could pay him $7.7 million if the Bengals beat the Rams.

@George,
I don't know. He has a reputation for helping others. He has a tradition of "If this team wins this -" your furniture purchase is absolutely free. He makes speeches, makes sure furniture is delivered within three hours of purchase - Has two or three stores -

Just as I was posting the above he ran a commercial over the TV. If you purchase $3000 worth of furniture and the Bengals win it all your purchase is free.

Jim McIngvale Net Worth:
$300 Million
What is Jim McIngvale's net worth and salary?
Jim McIngvale, also known as Mattress Mack, is an American businessman who has a net worth of $300 million. He is best known as the owner and operator of the Houston-based Gallery Furniture chain.

Mattress Mack is also known for making very large bets on sports games, particularly on the Houston Astros. His bets often involve promotions at his stores where customers can receive their money back for recently-purchased mattresses if the Astros win. He then makes large wagers on the Astros to hedge the cost of the promotion.

In the opinion of many psychologists, the major thing about gambling is that it is only fun when he amount bet could mean a loss that hurts.

Somehow, I doubt this would hurt him as much as a $100 bet would hurt me, but...my guess is a loss of that much WOULD hurt.

Don't be surprised to find that he places a bet in the other direction if the spread changes during the next day or two. And a huge bet like that might effect the spread somewhere. Having just "the middle" of two bets is a great place to be.

@edgarblythe,
That’s Life in the fast lane. Some people with that kind of money are like Icarus who ignored his father’s warnings and flew to close to the Sun.

Glad to see that he is charitable.

@Ragman,
During a crisis, such as storms or flooding, Mac is on the front lines. He brought people in to camp in his stores during Hurricane Harvey. He also gives housefuls of furniture to some poor people.

@edgarblythe,
Love hearing that stuff. Hope he continues doing it and his gambling doesn’t get in the way. I get concerned as a brother of mine had such a gambling problem that he gambled a house away.

I am cheering Stafford on. It pains me in a way I can't describe. He was nothing but a class act, humble person here in Detroit. Many times I wanted him gone, traded, sent to the moon. But as a human being, having him here for so many years, it's like you adopt them and always care. If Stafford wins the Superbowl the very next year he left Detroit, it's going to be the Bobby Lane Curse 2022.

When I first moved to Houston in 1977 I went to his "store" in North Houston along the side of I-10, I believe it was. He owned a whole block of rather run down stores. He had linked them all together so that you would walk out the sides and backs of the stores into other stores. He had plastic sheeting and tents setup with various different things and items in each one out back and overhead. I asked where mattress and beds were and the direction was a maze to get to different places. He had also bought lots of different junk from, for instance, Mexican vendors of rattan and clay items, like you found on a beach or in the alleyways down in Mexico. It was the weirdest conglomeration of stuff I had every seen in my life. Every time there was a big sale, he showed up with a bunch of money in his hand, jumped up and down and sang out, "we saved you money!" I could not handle it. Then years later I found out he had established it big, with real stores - all over the Southwest!

@BillW,
I remember his early store. Never bought from him, but watched with interest as he became a local icon. At the time you wrote about his commercials so enraged a man I know that he claimed he would shoot Mac between the eyes if he could get away with it. Good times.

Saw stories people blaming officials for missed calls against the Rams. I don't see well enough to have caught it.
