@jcboy,
So sorry to hear that these puppers they really have a hold on our hearts. Going to hug my babies a bit more tonight. Makes me sad to hear about another one leaving us ... Makes me remember those that I still miss today and makes me a bit angry to hear of potential abuse..these sweet hearts are just looking for a little love..that we don't always deserve.

I'm thinking of you Charlie ..and Ozzy and Sadie say give our love to you.

And Koda will be looking out for you in doggie heaven.

We’ve been talking about bringing home another older dog from a kill shelter just to make his last few years on this earth being happy and loved. Probably make a trip to the shelter this week.

Well I did it. Went to the shelter on Tuesday and brought home another one. This is Toby and he’s eight years old. This time I know the story behind him. An elderly lady owned him and she passed away. Her daughter took the dog to the shelter, you would think she would have wanted to take care of her mothers dog but no, instead of finding a home or taking him to a no kill shelter she takes him to one that give them about five days before putting them down if someone doesn’t take them home.

I saw him and he was sitting there shaking in a cage, he was scared. It sure didn’t take him but two days before he warmed up and trusted us!

@jcboy,
Good man. I only have ever taken shelter dogs, except one I rescued from a family member who didn't want her.

@jcboy,
Oh! Sorry - I am so sorry not to have caught up before commenting.

In the last two years, two of our three elderly dogs died (one at 19, one at 17). We still have our frisky 18 yr old giant pomeranian, Brandon. Dogs are such a comfort, aren't they.

Congrats on getting Toby!

@Mame,
Thanks, the kids already love him, they didn't spend much time with Charlie, he liked to be by himself most of the time.

Toby is a sweet little dog!

@jcboy,
Has he stolen any sausages?

Or got into trouble with a crocodile?

That's the way to do it.

@izzythepush,
Quote:
Many of us associate Punch and Judy, along with wonky deckchairs and sticks of rock, with the seaside. And Mr Punch can still be found on the sands these days, most notable on the historic seaside pitches of Weymouth and Llandudno. However the show has always gone with the crowds, and the Professors of the past only moved to the beaches during the Victorian era as the seaside holiday rose in popularity. With the rise of foreign travel the numbers of holiday makers on British beaches diminished, as did the number of Punch and Judy Shows. The Punch Professors moved on and found new audiences at fetes and fairs, in shopping centres and schools.

he dog in the Punch and Judy show is called Toby, or occasionally Dog Toby. Originally a live performing dog, Toby was one of the stars of the show, sharing equal billing with Mr Punch. Nowadays he is a glove puppet character, and takes less of a prominent role

@izzythepush,
Punch was originally a character from Commedia delArte. Over here it's a pupp0et show centring on the dynamic between Mr Punch and wife wife July. The story normally involves having sausages for tea but being waylaid by a crocodile of the way home.

Mr Puch has mellowed over the years he used to be a wifebeater, and would be beat Judy so badly with his stick that he'd end up being hanged from the scaffold by Jack Cade.

We don't have that now. I think Mr Punch saves his wacks for clowns and policemen.

If you're in the UK and there's one on, you might as well take a look.
