Thanks to all for participating. Congrats to tgordon92 and McGentrix for their positions on the podium. You may have slept through it, but there was an exciting fight for bronze that wasn't decided until the last boxing event (there were only two more events after it). After relinquishing their lead, McGentrix had to come from behind to tie wheel158 in points, but win bronze for having a less expensive team.

See you all in a few months for the 2022 edition of the Winter Olympics.

Holler if you see any errors in the standings.

Much better performance than last time! It is is good to play with you guys again.

I almost included your final comment (below) from 2018 in my summary and how you had a huge improvement this go-around.

I am disgusted with the poor choices I made.

@markr,
Yowza, the agony of defeat! Should've chosen my team differently (I'm looking at you, India!), or perhaps not picked another 0.5 point team. But I had fun regardless.

Great job to all!

@markr,
And congrats on the Gold Medal, @markr! You're so modest in your update posts. Wonderful job running things this year!

@markr,
Could this incident shake up the Tokyo 2020 Fantasy Olympics standings, especially the Bronze medal? Only time will tell:

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/sportsnews/article-9888765/COMMENT-CJ-Ujahs-suspension-one-bleakest-moments-Britains-Olympic-history.html

Here were the standings from the Men's 4x100 relay:

https://results.nbcolympics.com/track-and-field/mens-4x100m-relay/final/2153604

If GBR is stripped of this medal, Canada moves up to Silver and China to Bronze. McGentrix would lose one point (-3 Great Britain, +2 Canada). Ecartmill, Oralloy, Skin Rip, ehBeth, Ticomaya, tgordon92 and markr would gain 2 points (from Canada). fbaezer and George would gain a point (from China).

The plot thickens...

@wheel158,
Maybe we should establish a statute of limitations for this sort of thing. I remember revisiting the first FO I was in. I was 3 points (out of more than 1000) behind first place when it ended, but if you took into account medals being stripped later (much later than this if I recall correctly), I would have won. If GBR is stripped of the medal, I guess you can ask McGentrix to mail you his bronze medal.

@markr,
I realize the competition's over, and I'm just being competitive. And it was only a virtual bronze medal. 😆

If it was 6 months later, and an athlete failed a drug test, I get it. But if you think about it, it's only been a week since the Olympics ended. They are literally still processing the blood samples from the drug tests administered at the Tokyo Olympics. There were a few other athletes that were provisionally suspended too, but Ujah was the highest profile:

https://www.firstpost.com/sports/tokyo-olympics-2020-britains-silver-medallist-chijindu-ujah-suspended-for-doping-violation-9884541.html/amp

Mostly, I was just trying to stir the pot...

@markr,
Some years, Canada seems to do best in the disqualification portion of the Olympics. One fella is famous for receiving bronze, then ßilver and finally the gold medal in the same event at the same Olympics.

@ehBeth,
Well, true. There was this weightlifting olympic competition in 2012, in which the Canadian woman went from bronze to gold and the Mexican, from sixth place to bronze.

I had seen them both the year before at the Panamerican Games and didn't realize that they were going to be, both, olympic medalists.

Who's interested in a 2022 Winter Olympics fantasy competition? It's nine days until opening ceremonies, and seven until preliminary competitions start.

@tgordon92,
I'm willing to do the same thing I've done for the last two Olympics.
Here are predictions we could use:
https://www.gracenote.com/virtual-medal-table/
Last update (when I checked) was Jan 5.
If I did the math right, that would give us a budget of 351.5 (sum of top 3 - 0.5).

If anybody wants other opinions, I also found these predictions:
https://bestsports.com.br/bsp/prebsppag.php?pre=28&lang=2
https://beijing2022predictions.tumblr.com/

It would be helpful for me to have somebody else get the ball rolling (create new forum, do PR, etc.). Also, I'll be away from my computer Feb 4 to Feb 6. Hopefully, I'll have it all automated before then.
