But then who would have thought you would need a law for it?
A pharmacist at a Cape Cod drug store was taken into protective custody after appearing to be drunk on the job. Police went to the pharmacy after receiving an anonymous complaint from a customer.
Police said the pharmacist -- identified as only a 51-year-old man from Lakeville -- failed a Breathalyzer test and was taken into protective custody at the Sandwich police station. The man was not arrested or charged with any crime.
Apparently there is no law against this.
And then again I don't think that there is a law against practicing medicine, conducting surgery, and drinking. The only time that these characters have to pay for their actions, is if there is a very negative outcome (like the patient dies), and then the doctor is sued for malpractice. If a big enough stink is made about it, the doctor's license is suspended.
I really wonder just how many doctors and surgeons are practicing "under the influence", and never get caught.
I just think it is crazy that you would need laws to state this. Not that you need to be educated to understand not to mix alcohol and work, but these jobs are people who are licensed and with advanced degrees.
I'm reminded of a situation in MA several (perhaps many) years ago when it turned out there was no state or local law penalizing the patrons of a very seedy bar for watching a woman being raped on a pool table without interfering.
