Here is a nice image to include in a floral or botanical screensaver series--or desktop wallpaper:cardinal flower. I'm using the URL route because of its size,
807 x 1072,but you can edit it to best fit your screen.

This aster grows to over five feet in the garden and makes an impressive
star-studded backdrop, as shown here. The link gives a screen sized image.

Common Fleabane, Erigrinon Philadelphicus :

This native blooms a bit earlier than the asters and gives a brief show of eye-catching beauty.

Neko - how do you get such lush plants? Everything around here looks dusty and dried up....

littlek: The summers here don't get hot enough to stress my plants into dormancy. Plus, the garden's soil retains moisture quite well, and with many years' accumulation of mulch and humus, my water bill stays affordable.

Could someone please tell me the name of this plant? I bought two today and want to know how to take care of them.

Thank you for your help.

Misti

Not completely sure but your photo looks like a cordyline.
Since I'm a klutz when it comes to posting links or pics, you'll have to research this further yourself.

Hmm-m... hadn't thought of it, olga. But now that you mention it, I can see the resemblance.
Yours looks like the Felix The Cat of 1930's vintage. Does anyone know when WB let Sylvester out?

Like, who inspired whom ? I'm not a Hollywood trivia whiz.

My choice on Sylvester stems from an image mascot used by my Air Force unit back in the early 1960s and had been provided courtesy of WB.

but I digress... I'm considering starting a thread on irises, due mainly from iris fever caught while surfing online iris growers' catalogues.

It's close to pruning time again, and this year I''ve focused my attention
on the apple tree out back, which is starting to show a graceful form I'm
hoping to achieve, as shown in this shot taken last spring:
http://sc.groups.msn.com/tn/9A/10/TheRavensRealm/7d/1ed8.jpg

This shot, taken just yesterday, lets me plan its coiffure for the year, from the comfort of the inside of the house:

annual trimming halts its tendency to grow into an amorphous bush. The thumbnails link to larger pictures.

Here's a shot, taken last summer, of Nekochan paying a social call to the resident chipmunk. I think it wasn't home at the time --
