Fernleaf peonies give a nice oriental flair to the springtime show. Their brief appearance adds to their allure, I think. Then, I suppose, that could also be said about most of the early bloomers.

I was clearing out the dead dahlias ready for winter and found this lavatera blooming away behind them. http://img73.photobucket.com/albums/v221/Whyjay/lavatera.jpg

Littlek:
I wasn't aware just how unusual a peony this plant was until I tried to find its background on the web. A very brief description is given at
paenoia tenuifolia.
It's been in the garden for years, and has been used as barter for other plants with gardening acquaintenances in the area.

The fern leafed peony is beautiful!
I have 'gone digital', and can't resist showing a few shots; nothing too exotic mind you Smile
The honey suckle is looking its best in years -

The periwinkle tends to try to take over the garden, but it's so pretty when in flower!

neko - that's some bartering toll! I hope you get your plant's worth!

Think - Who knew the lowly periwonkle could be that beautiful!

We've been having rain, rain and more rain. So the garden has been a vision in green, green and white (after the crocus' and scilla were done, and the first flush of violets finished) for weeks. The first oriental poppies popped this morning, so I'm going to take the camera out tomorrow morning on my way to work.

The pix here have been wonderful. Thanks to everyone who's been posting them, and a special thanks to Neko who gave me some picture posting advice last year.

I finally purchased a digital camera...looking forward to posting some pics myself.

Does anyone have suggestions for colorful plants which can exist in deer settings? Yes....I have visited websites which list such plants, but I was interested in some of your suggestions....and maybe a few pics. Very Happy

Eve, those are gorgeous!

Sorry, MP, I'd be looking them up on websites myself were I to answer your question. I haven't really had to deal with deer in the gardens I've been involved with.

It's lily and iris time again. This completes the tour of the garden. Gardening keeps me busy here at the house. When the iris bed is
completed and established, I'll show it off. 'Til then,it's Happy Gardening,
everyone.

added: About four feet from this spot blooms a pink variation of this lily species, L. martagon.

added: Around mid-July this beauty, the yellow tiger lily makes its appearance.

Daylilies are now in their moment of glory; the gold colored ones in particular stand out beautifully in an exuberant setting of field flowers in the butterfly garden.

This native North American beauty, the cardinal flower, lobelia cardinalis, is irrestible to hummingbirds. Although mine are almost obscured by neighboring plants, the small hummers go straight to them every morning.

Mine is supposed to be a wild flower garden. After weeding all the grass out, I am left with some plants that I'm not even sure came in the canister of seed/mulch mix.
It's a work in progress and, like our vegetable garden, we be planned much better next year.
I mistakenly posted a link to my personal webpage with my garden pictures, since that's against tos I've removed it. I'll stick around to learn how to post pictures directly to this site, but it may take a little while.

apmom - I love your page! I wish I could help ID the plants you have there, but I can't. I too have lots of little green plants which I can't yank until they have shown their true colors.

You may run into a Terms of Service issue by posting a link directly to your own website. Maybe you could just post/link your photos directly onto this page?
