@snood,
I very definitely want Trump as the candidate for the very reasons explicated by Luntz: 1) He's more likely to lose (as are other GOP candidates tied to him) 2) Whoever is his replacement will continue to carry forward the modern party's move towards authoritarianism/fascism while using the same devices Trump has used (not least including racism).

If you're asking why would I bother to lay this out? Understanding what these people are up and why helps arm us for the future.

One of the five gentlemen portrayed in the photo/painting of Thomas and Crow was Mark Paoletta. Aside from his former positions as as chief counsel to former Vice President Mike Pence and general counsel of Donald Trump’s Office of Management and Budget there's THIS

Quote:
In addition to working in the Trump-Pence administration, Paoletta serves as the Thomases’ longtime fixer, attack dog, and booster. He represented Ginni Thomas when she spoke to the Jan 6. committee about her support for overturning the 2020 election. He also edited a biography of Clarence Thomas based on an almost comically obsequious documentary (in which he was also involved). So it should not be a surprise that Paoletta has also testified against any ethics reform measures for the Supreme Court, dismissing the reform movement as part of “the coordinated campaign by some Democrats and their allies in the corporate media to smear conservative Justices with the goal of delegitimizing the court.

Iowa AG's office suspends emergency contraception payments for sexual assault victims
Meanwhile rape induced pregnancies aren't going to suspend themselves effectively punishing the victim a second time for being a victim to sexual assault.

@tsarstepan,
A common deceit these folks have used is to claim they only want States to determine laws on abortion and gay rights etc (all their "culture war" favorites). But they're lying. Wherever and whenever they can pass legislation or gain court rulings favoring their agenda at community level, State level or Federal level they will work towards that. And as you are aware, what majorities of citizens actually want is totally irrelevant. Democracy, in their minds, is a dreamy conceit.

Roger, the key words here are "Trump offering"! It doesn't imply that the offer is accepted or even announced to the public.

@BillW,
Well, it's clear that stopping him running again, is what this is all about.

I'd not be surprised if that option was offered to him by those head-hunting him.

You don’t seriously believe the Democrats would rather run against Desantis, do you?

The following article is even too long for me to post, and I post some long articles. I hope it's read by those concerned at the power struggle being waged by republicans ignoring the will of the voting democracy. And yes, snood it is for information and a take on this struggle that I leave a link.

GOP wages an asymmetrical war on democracy because it can’t get the votes

@snood,
A smidgen. Some pieces I personally think speak for themselves and a reader either likes it or not. If not, skip it. However, I admit I often just leave articles or links when I don't feel very social, but the article was important to me for one reason or another to get a particular point across. So I see where you are coming from.

At first, I was afraid of DeSantis because he is like a Trump on steroids without all Trump's obvious faults getting in the way. However, I am seeing (hopefully not falsely) a push-back on some of his more undemocratic, harsh stances.

I know I am a softie and I still despise Trump and all of his opinions and ways to say the least. But, seeing him destroyed before our very eyes and before long most of the republicans deserting a sinking ship is hard to watch and gloat however much he truly does deserve it.
