Enrique Tarrio, the Proud Boys’s former chairman who was arrested last week and charged with conspiracy over the deadly attack, had a nine-page document entitled “1776 Returns”, named for the year of American independence.

The document, mentioned only in general terms in Tarrio’s indictment, contained details of a complex plan for supporters of Donald Trump to invade and occupy at least seven House and Senate office buildings on the afternoon Congress met to certify Joe Biden’s election victory, according to Times sources.

Here in British Columbia, the right wing sorts in an avalanche of social media commentary a week ago were blaming the BC leader (left wing party) and the federal leader (left wing party) for the rise in gas prices here. The recent rapid decline in gas prices has not been mentioned whatsoever.

I was thinking back to a time when white people could purchase people of color to be slaves. That has always been a sticking point for me.....how do you feel about slavery?

The very same tropes ongoing here in British Columbia on social media where Trudeau is constantly described as "weak" and effeminate by our version of right wing doofi set against the admirably masculine strong man, Putin. Though conservatives here had previously flirted with this formulation of desired leadership I've never seen it anywhere near this blatant and unreflective. Once again, this is an example of how the more poorly educated right wing types here are being seduced by the agitprop coming from down south.

But this all does lead one again to wonder just what the **** is the appeal of such notions to the modern conservative mind. I think it is probably just the primitiveness of the mano a mano formulation as is the case with their common disdain for sexual and cultural variation or intellectualism or nuance or most anything where they're confronted with complexities.

As I'm here briefly, let me toss in another unrelated matter. It seems apparent to me, if not to many others, that the Republican Party (and those who fund it) are trying to rid itself of Trump and all the ugly baggage he carries. But this would have to be done slowly and very carefully as an internal civil war would definitely not be in their electoral interests and many in their base are still entranced with the guy.

Over here the main news item is the release of British Iranian citizen Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe from an Iranian jail. She is now back in Britain with her husband and little girl after being held for six years on bogus charges.

I heard an interview this morning with Florida's Senator Rick Scott. It's seven minutes of ignorance – the guy can't even articulate the point of his proposals. McConnell has already said that they won't make it into the Republican platform.

Of course the barrel price reductions weren't mentioned - it doesn't fit the RW wing narrative.

Chinese spies have been arrested following a plot to discredit a potential Congress candidate. He is ex military and a veteran of the 1989 pro democracy movement in Beijing.

A Chinese artist was also targeted.

Fan "Frank" Liu, Matthew Ziburis and Shujun Wang have all been arrested in New York, Qiang "Jason" Sun and Qiming Lin remain at large.

That's one I haven't seen anything about. Good find!

It's on the BBC website, what is interesting is that the names of the artist and potential congressional candidate are kept quiet, but we know the names of the spies.
