What the January 6th Papers Reveal

The Supreme Court ruled to give the House Select Committee access to a trove of documents detailing election-negating strategies that Donald Trump and his advisers entertained—including a military seizure of voting machines—but he continues to peddle a counter-narrative in which he’s the victim.

@hightor,
Has the ever stalwart Premier Trudeau yet emerged from hiding ( er COVID exposure isolation) ?? Perhaps he could emerge, dressed in his Hindu costume, lips pursed and hands posed fingertip to fingertip, and calm down the "unruly, uneducated" crowd of angry truckers and their supporters - who appear to be having a good time in Ontario.

Good grief, george. You've suggested we don't know what you read but you give away so many clues of what you read, listen to and watch.

@georgeob1,
I recall that your friend Trump spent some time in the White House security shelter during the protests over George Floyd's killing. It's standard operating procedure for agents who are assigned to protect heads of state. Did coldjoint dictate the second part of your question? – he had an embarrassing fixation on the Canadian prime minister. So does this GOP hack: GOP Rep Pushes Bizarre Conspiracy Theory About Trudeau Fleeing To US
Quote:
In recent days, Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX) repeatedly pushed a baseless conspiracy theory that Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has fled to the United States, supposedly escaping protesters in Ottawa who are furious with vaccine mandates, COVID-19 health measures and Trudeau himself.

In the past week, Roy twice promoted the fictional online rumor, which was initially circulated by an anonymous Twitter account that calls itself “Terror Alarm,” according to CNN. The photo that the account used in its tweet was of Trudeau and his family in the foreground and an American flag in the background that had, in reality, been taken in 2016. At the time, Trudeau had arrived in the U.S. for an official visit to Washington, D.C.

Despite the fact that the Canadian prime minister is not in the U.S., Roy, in his tweets, demanded Trudeau be deported.

But on Sunday morning, the anonymous “Terror Alarm” Twitter account walked back its baseless claims of Trudeau’s whereabouts. It tweeted a “#FactCheck” of itself that said Trudeau “is NOT in hiding” but rather “is in Covid-related self-isolation.”

That much is at least partially true: The prime minister announced last week he has COVID-19 and is working remotely. Official itineraries said that Trudeau was in an undisclosed location in Canada’s capital region over the weekend. Trudeau’s undisclosed location was a change from his usual “Ottawa, Ontario” location on his public schedule.

Trudeau also expressed concerns last week over potential violence during a planned protest by truckers and others who oppose public health restrictions to combat the spread of COVID-19.

Roy has not deleted his tweets nor issued a correction.

Here's a bible passage I previously had no knowledge of. Advice on one way to effect an abortion of a fetus. Numbers chapter 5...
Quote:
11 Then the Lord said to Moses, 12 “Speak to the Israelites and say to them: ‘If a man’s wife goes astray and is unfaithful to him 13 so that another man has sexual relations with her, and this is hidden from her husband and her impurity is undetected (since there is no witness against her and she has not been caught in the act), 14 and if feelings of jealousy come over her husband and he suspects his wife and she is impure—or if he is jealous and suspects her even though she is not impure— 15 then he is to take his wife to the priest. He must also take an offering of a tenth of an ephah[c] of barley flour on her behalf. He must not pour olive oil on it or put incense on it, because it is a grain offering for jealousy, a reminder-offering to draw attention to wrongdoing.

16 “‘The priest shall bring her and have her stand before the Lord. 17 Then he shall take some holy water in a clay jar and put some dust from the tabernacle floor into the water. 18 After the priest has had the woman stand before the Lord, he shall loosen her hair and place in her hands the reminder-offering, the grain offering for jealousy, while he himself holds the bitter water that brings a curse. 19 Then the priest shall put the woman under oath and say to her, “If no other man has had sexual relations with you and you have not gone astray and become impure while married to your husband, may this bitter water that brings a curse not harm you. 20 But if you have gone astray while married to your husband and you have made yourself impure by having sexual relations with a man other than your husband”— 21 here the priest is to put the woman under this curse—“may the Lord cause you to become a curse[d] among your people when he makes your womb miscarry and your abdomen swell. 22 May this water that brings a curse enter your body so that your abdomen swells or your womb miscarries.”

There is now a wikipedia page up for "Freedom Covoy 2022" (note the "current event" caveat at the top of that page). I'll post here just a rather salient part of the entry...
Quote:
Links to far-right and separatist groups
- One of the lead organizers of the convoy, James Bauder, has previously stated support for QAnon, endorsed conspiracy theories around the COVID-19 pandemic and the 2020 U.S. presidential election, and called for the arrest of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau for alleged "treason".[124]
- The Facebook page for the convoy has shared content from and listed as an organizer Wexit co-founder and Yellow Vest Canada organizer Patrick King, who has previously hosted counter-protests to anti-racism rallies, spread COVID-19 misinformation, and spread the Great Replacement conspiracy theory.[125][126][127]
- Maverick Party - Tamara Lich, the protest's fundraiser, is Secretary for the Maverick Party, a western separatist group formerly known as Wexit Canada.[96] Lich was previously the regional co-ordinator for Wexit in southeastern Alberta and board member for Wexit Alberta.[128] The Maverick Party has denied involvement in fundraising for the convoy, issuing a statement on January 24 saying that the party is not involved in the protest.[98]
- Action 4 Canada - associated with the Canada Unity group inside the Freedom Convoy - Islamophobic and anti-LGBTQ conspiracy group with webpages about the dangers of political Islam, health consequences of 5G technology and underreporting of adverse vaccine reactions.[125] Founded by Tanya Gaw who actively supported the Yellow Vests protests of 2019.[129]
- No More Lockdowns - Jason LaFace, Canada Unity's Ontario organizer for the Freedom Convoy is also a main organizer for No More Lockdowns Canada - An anti-lockdown and anti-vaccine mandate organization primarily associated with expelled Ontario MPP Randy Hillier which holds anti-lockdown rallies across Ontario.[45][130]
- Peoples Party of Canada - Benjamin Dichter who is listed as an organizer on the Freedom Convoy GoFundMe page and who is an organizer of the Freedom Convoy was a speaker at the inaugural 2019 PPC National Convention where he claimed political Islam has infiltrated the Conservative Party and is "rotting away at our society like syphilis".[131]
- Soldiers of Odin - Convoy leader Dave Steenburg and admin of the Convoy Facebook page Jason LaFace both have posted material by Soldiers of Odin, a neo nazi vigilante group, on their Facebook pages, LaFace even wearing a SOO jacket.[132][133]

That you think him comical isn't of interest here. Rather it's your contact with voices that consistently funnel false information.

For me this started 6 years ago when trump started campaigning for President. It has only gotten worse since. This is what one expects in a Fascist society!

Since the discussion is now about Canadian politics and the Canadian government - the Canadian head of state has her platinum jubilee today, btw - I think that all those protests are pulling a troubled Conservative opposition even further to the right, eroding its chances of returning to power.

@Walter Hinteler,
There are no viable prospects for good leadership in Canada at the moment. The Conservative party is fractured, with far-right wingnuts, some centrists and some social conservatives. There are a few Conservatives I would vote for (were I able to vote), but they're no longer in politics. I have to figure out where I'm going to move.

@blatham,
Are you suggesting that Trudeau didn't adopt a somewhat ridiculous Hindu costume and pose during his very widely reported visit to India a few years ago, or that, as the trucker's convoy approached Ontario, still a couple of hundred miles away, he was equally widely reported as leaving his official residence for a then undisclosed location, later reported to involve isolation following a reported exposure to someone with COVID?

@georgeob1,
I don't know anyone who respects Trudeau. He has made major gaffe after gaffe, has lost us credibility on the international scene, is arrogant and doesn't acknowledge his stupidity. But there is no viable alternative as yet. The Conservatives are bickering amongst themselves and can't get organized.

There's a meme out there - guy at a McD's says at the window: " I'll have a Trudeau." "A what?" "A Trudeau." "We don't have that, sir." "Yes, you do - I'll have a McChicken."
