I've noticed that this is one of the Rotten Right's favorite tactics. Remember Don Jr.'s "...for Democrats to try to take a pandemic and seemingly hope that it comes here and kills millions of people so that they could end Donald Trump's streak of winning is a new level of sickness." There must be a term for this sort of dishonesty; maybe one of A2K's renowned rhetoricians knows what it's technically called.

Interestingly, there were Democrats who accused Trump supporters of hoping for the maximum amount of civil unrest during last summer's BLM protests because it was good for Trump's "law and order" message. But there's a difference — with regard to the pandemic, Democrats by and large favored mask-wearing, social distancing, lockdowns, and any other measures that might slow the spread of the disease. During the BLM protests, I don't recall Trump or any of his prominent defenders proposing any solution other than more cops, more soldiers, and more repression – the very same factors that fueled the demonstrations – hardly a prescription for anything other than more violence, more casualties, and more divisiveness.

It's called telling the truth. There is nothing dishonest about it.

He shouldn't have used a weasel word like "seemingly" though. He should have said outright that progressives are hoping for dead Americans.

I sometimes catch myself using weasel words like "seemingly" when I denounce progressivism. When I notice that I'm doing it, I rewrite my sentence so that there is nothing ambiguous about my denunciation of progressivism.
