@tsarstepan,
Why wouldn't there be some military at the riot. After all we train them to shoot first than ask questions. Not all but unfortunately a significant minority.

@oralloy,

1. Why shouldn't people learn new skills in the face of changing job markets?

2. Breaking up the big social media monopolies should go a long way toward allowing platforms the freedom to host scurrilous lies and misinformation.

3. It's time for the right to get over its Obama obsession. Biden and Obama had an effective working relationship and Biden tapped quite a few of the people he worked with for positions in his administration. So what?

@Region Philbis,
Wow. We really need to outlaw the Democratic Party in America. They are out of control.

@revelette3,

Given that progressives consider racial justice to mean allowing black people to rape and murder white people, it is proper that this sort of nonsense is blocked.

Because Mr. Biden shouldn't be eliminating their jobs in the first place.

Agreed.

So long as politicians can lose votes from having a close association with Mr. Obama, it is fair game for conservatives to try to link them.

I just realized I haven't been posting Pat Cross cartoons for awhile. I'll have to remedy that.

@hightor,
I believe the comic is criticizing Mr. Biden for job cuts in the oil industry.

@oralloy,
I think he has banned new leases on federal land. That would include BLM, which is a pretty good slice of the extraction in NM. If he's really done that, it would also include national forests.

ETA: BLM here is Bureau of Land Management

Basically that is what happened to me. I originally trained to be a carpenter. Even went to trade school. Then the 2007 housing crisis impacted the construction industry with no new homes being built.

I went back to school, got a bachelor's degree, and I got a good paying job. Granted, I was young enough to make an easy career change, so I'm sure someone who spend 15+ years in a trade would be resistant to change fields.

On a related note, Trump had promised repeatedly during his 2016 campaign that he would save coal mines and keep those jobs around. He ultimately failed to do so.

Quote:
There are now about 5,000 fewer miners than when Trump strode into the White House. The coronavirus pandemic has turbo-charged the decline – so far this year US coal production has collapsed by more than 25% compared with the same period in 2019.
-----
Coal production fell so sharply last year that renewable energy such as solar and wind overtook it in electricity generation for the first time since at least 1885, the year Mark Twain published The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, America’s first skyscraper was erected in Chicago and people were burning more wood than coal.

https://stateimpact.npr.org/pennsylvania/2020/09/28/my-friends-were-lied-to-will-coalminers-stand-by-trump-as-jobs-disappear/

Quote:
The president of United Mine Workers of America said Wednesday that the coal industry is not “back,” despite President Donald Trump’s claims.

Cecil Roberts said at an event in Washington that his message to Trump and others running for president in 2020 is: “Coal’s not back. Nobody saved the coal industry.” He said coal-fired plants are closing all over the country, calling it a “harsh reality.”

@oralloy,
He's stopped issuing new leases for drilling on federal land; existing operations can continue — but many of them have been idle for years, first because of oversupply and currently because of the covid slowdown.

People with jobs in the fossil fuel industry need to be planning ahead because the energy industry is changing quickly. It's not any one person's fault and if you have to assign blame look no further than the petroleum industry itself which knew about the destructive effects of carbon pollution forty years ago and kept mum instead of moving toward sustainable sources.

Only a progressive would say that it is racist to oppose raping and murdering white people.
