@farmerman,
You’re not a man of faith though, Biden is, his Catholicism is important to him.

The US Bishop’s stance has put them at odds with Rome.

@Region Philbis,
"Radical left" just a standard pejorative in right wing agitprop. Netanyahu, for example, in his recent campaign simply could not use the noun without yelling the adjective. But you knew that.

Anyone remember the US Conference of Bishops taking a public theological/moral stand against twice divorced, pussy-grabbing, porn star *******, false-witness-bearer par excellence ex-president? I'd confidently wager that a good portion of those Bishops who voted in favor of this motion actually think that Francis is a more dangerous leader than Trump.

Personally, I don't find myself compelled to grant moral authority to people who built their moral principles out of rubber.

Yesterday, I noted the role and strategies of Christopher F. Rufo in pushing the propaganda campaign against critical race theory. Today I see that the New Yorker has a piece up on this story. It's Here.

Maybe Rome should start retiring some of the bishops, it’s not a Democracy and Francis is supposed to be infallible after all.

@blatham,
Pope’s Silence Speaks Volumes on Controversial Communion Vote by U.S. Bishops
Quote:
The divergence of the conservative American church from Francis’ agenda is now so apparent as to become unremarkable, and Vatican officials and experts said Saturday that the pope’s silence also underlined just how unsurprising the American vote, made public on Friday, was to the Vatican.

The deeply conservative American bishops conference has already flaunted a remarkably explicit letter from the Vatican in May urging it to avoid the vote. It has disregarded years of the pope’s pleas to de-emphasize culture war issues and expand the scope of its mission to climate change, migration and poverty.
[...]
But the public silence at the Vatican on Saturday, the officials said, also reflected that the pope and his top officials remained confident that the American conservatives would never actually pass such a doctrinal declaration on banning communion.

Church law says for that to happen, the bishops’ conference would need either unanimous support, which is essentially impossible, or two-thirds support and the Vatican’s approval.

“It’s not going to get to that point,” said one senior Vatican official with knowledge of the thinking inside the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, the church’s doctrinal watchdog. “It’s inconceivable.”

President Biden, when asked about the vote yesterday, had a similar view.

“That’s a private matter,” he told reporters. “And I don’t think that’s going to happen.”

The greatest threat posed by Friday’s vote was to the unity of the American church itself, and not to Mr. Biden and other Catholic politicians who supported abortion rights.

The notion of a "moral authority" is questionable under any circumstances. But it certainly makes no sense at all where inconsistencies in stated principles are evident and numerous.

@blatham,
In my lifetime, I have found that priests, ministers, clerics and other religious authorities are the last entity I would instill "moral authority"!

@Walter Hinteler,
Good link, Walter. There is obviously a powerful contingent within the American Conference of Bishops which has been aligned with movement conservative elements of the broader Christian right and, of course, the GOP. It's not clear to me how this came about.

I'm somewhat less cynical regarding many people of faith. Francis, for example, is a very different sort of personality type than William Barr or William F Buckley. What does mark the bad guys, in my thinking at least, is their strident lack of humility and their eagerness to dominate others in the broad community.

@blatham,
Oh, I would sit down and pray with this Pope - I wouldn't with Joel Osteen, Jerry Falwell, Jimmy Swaggart, Jim/Tammy Bakker, Mike Huckabee, Kenneth Copeland, Franklin Graham or his father. etc. I can't figure out why they can't just admit everyone needs money. For the most part, I know not who to trust!

American websites still haven't covered the killing of this Chinese girl. Let me give you guys a link to a Chinese website.

Police say it will bring Shadeed-the black man who killed this girl-to justice.

This black man's former wife is also Chinese, according to other articles published by Chinese websites. And they have a son.

@snood,
I won't call a black killer like Shadeed my brother. I can't bring myself to do it. I think you won't do it as well since you are also a decent man.

You don't want to see me here because I'm a straight-shooter. You just want to hear cloying praise from CNN's pharisaical journalists.

@MontereyJack,
Shadeed's Chinese students told the press that he gets kicks out of wooing his female students.

"He's always leering at Chinese girls. I'm just not in my element when he's around, "says one of the students .

Shadeed and his former Chinese wife reportedly got divorced after Shadeed was found making whoopee with another girl; his exasperated former wife even posted an article online laying bare Shadeed's misdeeds in China. Beyond that, Shadeed had to find another teaching job after one of his students reported him.

@glitterbag,
I just want to prove that it's not fictional. You are right that it has nothing to do with Biden. A liberal like him also hates a ne'er-do-well like Shadeed.

Correction: He's not divorced yet. He still has a Chinese wife. That's truly irksome. His Chinese wife still doesn't want to get divorced even her hubby is an amoral sort.

Well, I'd imagine that she has no choice but to do it down the road after her black hubby has been arrested.

@glitterbag,
I think he wants everyone to know he’s a rather pathetic racist with nothing better to do than scour foreign news media for negative stories about black people.
