shove off, rock slabs

Fed, dry and regrouped, we shove off at 2:30 p.m. The whitecaps have subsided, so we attempt to enter Emerald Bay again for a close look at Eagle Falls, an enormous torrent of snowmelt tumbling over hundreds of rock slabs.

Shove off: Does this mean to push the kayak off shore to start a new journey?

rock slabs: rock(or big stone) in shape of a pressed egg? Sorry, I don't know how to talk of the shape, so I use "pressed egg(either greatly pressed or slightly pressed with a big flat plate or palm".

Shove off - You are correct. You can also use it as slang, as in "Well, I guess it's time for me to shove off" meaning "I'm going to leave"

Rock slabs - your description of "pressed eggs" is interesting.

A slab is more like a big slice of something (think slice of bread)
To me, it indicate something of a fairly large size in comparison to what the normal size of that object would be....
A slab of meat is a sirloin, not a petit filet mignon

Each section of a sidewalk is a slab.

Funny word when you keep saying it. slab slab slab slab slab

Since this has already gotten silly, I'll confuse things further by saying that every time I see the title I think it's an insult. "Shove off, rock slabs!!" I imagine a sort of rugged construction type guy talking to a couple of slackers who are leaning against his shiny pick-up.

Carry on.

I think you're talking about tongue-twisters, so I give out the Chinese translation of it.

haha is the sound when you laugh
hehe is the sound when you giggle(is the word right?)
xixi is the sound when you want to laugh naughtyly, usually you don't want others to hear it. And you feel shy for and want to laugh at what you hear.

I mentioned this because everytime I want to use it in my post, I wonder if you can understand.

Hehe.
