Question

Just looking over two pages of responses of a new member?

Nevertheless, we had had this discussion here on a different thread earlier:

you speak more American English. This was introduced to Iraq by the USA, while the few Iraquian English teachers had to change their 'teaching style'.
Did you learn English from the war onwards or earlier?

Hi Maximos.

Are you happy to have the ability to elect your government representatives? In other words, are you optimistic or pessimistic, about your country's future? What are your thoughts on democracy in Iraq?

Welcome to A2K. Glad to have you here.

Ticomaya :: well it's not about being optimistic or pessimistic .. and electing the right people for the government is certainly something out of hands... cuz the people that we should elect someone among them .. are already elected by the inner circle of the government itself .. get it?

Is the economy developing or is it paralyzed due to hostilities? Any trace of investment not related to petroleum?

Thanks for your response, but I'm not sure I understand it. Are you saying you were not able to vote for the candidate of your choosing, or that your vote didn't count, or something else?

Einherjar:
petrol investment is stopped .. they're exporting raw oil outside of Iraq .. the goverment even import cars fuel now!

Ticomaya:
no .. we voted but to a limited no of option "candidates" .. and those option that we selected are not from our made!
FOR EXAMPLE: it's somethin like i give u an option WEATHER U SMOKE THIS CEGAR OR THAT PIPE .. BUT U DON'T EVEN SMOKE! SO U HAVE TO CHOOSE BETWEEN THESE 2 ONLY !
I hope u understand now!

Steve (as 41oo): well i said this before somehow . if the same government will rule i'm pessemistic for sure!

Thanks. I think I do understand. I was under the impression that the problem with the elections in Iraq was more along the lines of having too many candidates on the ballot ... not a problem of having to choose from a small, predetermined list.

Was there a candidate you wanted to run, but he or she was prevented from campaigning for some reason?

thanks maximos

hope things work out for you.

I think I can guess how many things might be very hard in Iraq at present.

But is there anything in daily life that is better now than under the regime of Saddam Hussein?

Welcome Maximos,

Given the choice would you prefer the country to be running as it was under Saddam, or as it is now?

Well steve .. there's a lil things we can talk about which are better .. internet for example .. before the only internet available was monitored .. and was dial up internet .. now it's availble with all types mine is wirless for example ..! and yes there's another thing the satellite channels .. was forbidden before now it's not! see it's somethin not necessary!
but the necessary stuff like water and electricity was better before and ofcourse security which was better than now!

Thanks Maximos. It just struck me as kind of sad that someone could or would have to get used to tumult. But I'm glad that at least you have good internet! That way we can talk to you. Hang in there.
